Alexandroupolis has not much to do besides maybe taking a brunch in Floisvos cafe near the citys lighthouse. You may notice some of your fellow american servicemen that have been stationed in the city for a while.

If I were you Id take a day off from the race for some greek summer vacation to the Makri beach, a nice beach in close distance from Alexandroupoli... if the weather is still hot of course ;)

in Greek Thrace, the most interesting things to visit are perhaps the island of Samothraki (Thrace's only major island, really beautiful and very different than your standard Greek island) and the Rodopi mountains, north of the beautiful little city of Xanthi. This road back to Bulgaria will also take you close to some spectacular places in Bulgaria such as Shiroka Laka and Devil's Throat.

You will go straight through Turkish minority regions of Bulgaria! Kardzhali, Momchilgrad and Krumovgrad are small towns on your path where you can see Balkan Turkish culture.
