The funny part about this catchphrase is it means "i am in great pain. Please help me" BUT, Wubba lubba dub dub wasn't the original catchphrase, it was improvised by the voice actor. They thought it was so stupid that they would give it and ironic twist and say it means something depressing. *laughs while no one else does*

It's pretty sad if you think about it. Anyone with half a brain cell can tell Rick is in terrible pain, but no one in his family actually cares enough to look into it. He's a mere convenience; a tool they use when necessary and leave to collect dust on a shelf when not. Rick is always there for them, but they are never there for him. Every time in the show where his suffering reached a point that he couldn't hide it anymore and his family saw it they just left him to sit in the garage, alone and and in pain.

I believe Birdperson took the time to explain the meaning of wubba lubba dub dub to Morty because he's tired of seeing his best friend miserable. He knows he can't do anything about it, but he thinks maybe the family can. Birdperson unfortunately didn't realize how little they actually care for Rick. Beneath all the intellect and snark is a sad, lonely old man that desperately needs the love of an emotional support of a family that simply does not care about him.
