Palm Sunday Corfu - Litany of St. Spyridon
According to the historical sources, the plague was transmitted to the island of Corfu by a ship that arrived from Italy in October 1629.
Until Christmas of 1629 there were four cases in Corfu, and then plague was exponentially spread, despite the strict measures taken by the authorities.
Shortly before Easter many patients were cured after envisioning the Saint blessing them. Those days, the guards of the Old Fortress reported a light hovering over the church of Saint Spyridon at nights. The cases were definitively eliminated on Palm Sunday 1630.
All bands from the island's villages join the three bands of the town to accompany the longest litany of Saint Spyridon in Corfu.

Κυριακή Βαΐων Κέρκυρα 2022 - Λιτανεία Αγ. Σπυρίδωνα
H πανώλη μεταδόθηκε στην Κέρκυρα από ένα πλοίο που έφτασε από την Ιταλία τον Οκτώβριο του 1629. Η ασθένεια εξαπλώθηκε παρά τα αυστηρά μέτρα που έλαβαν οι αρχές. Λίγο καιρό πριν το Πάσχα πολλοί ασθενείς έβλεπαν τον Άγιο στον ύπνο τους και γιατρεύονταν, ενώ οι νυxτερινοί σκοποί του Παλαιού Φρουρίου έβλεπαν τη νύχτα ένα φως να αιωρείται πάνω από το ναό του Αγίου.
Τα κρούσματα εξαλείφθηκαν οριστικά την Κυριακή των Βαΐων του 1630.
Η λιτανεία αυτή έχει τη μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια από τις τέσσερις λιτανείες του Αγίου στην Κέρκυρα, και τη μεγαλύτερη συμμετοχή φιλαρμονικών.
