It works using a high tone and a low audio tone, one each for a digital zero and a digital one. By looking at the wave and counting the amount of time it takes for the speaker cone to cross its resting (silent) position as its playing the sound, it can be determined which pitch was sent. By encasing each byte with a digital one at the beginning and a zero at the end and by sending a series of bytes with all ones at the very beginning, synchronization can be found where each byte starts. The tape speed doesn't change much even with wow and flutter during the time one single byte is sent and each of the data bits can be put into 8 time slots to retrieve the characters. Once it found where the bytes starts the transition between the starting and stopping encasment bits can maintain synchronization regardless of the characters sent. Even an old-fashioned cassette recorder can record the sound in the video, you don't need 3-3/4 inch professional quality speeds. Old 8-bit computers used compact cassette tapes much the same way.

Interesting look! I liked the way you could see the characters display 'live' on the screen at the end.

So, did you transfer the data to the tape or to the computer?

I was learning about serial access and the updating of data on magnetic tapes by using the master file and transaction file and similarly hoped to see that in this video, didn't see what I came for, but was equally satisfied, impressive work lmfao.
