Walrus Audio Warhorn Overdrive

Today, we're sounding the Warhorn, by Walrus Audio. The Warhorn is a classic-sounding overdrive pedal that provides a transparent crunch that gives you a kick in the upper-mids, all while doing battle with the front end of your amp. The drive control pumps out a banquet of overdrive tones fit for a king, from gentle low-gain crunch to a medium-high gain tone that will give your amp what-for. The engine driving the Warhorn is the highly curated clipping switch that features two carefully-curated diode selections that wring every last bit of articulation from the circuit. The upper switch position delivers a classic, well-voiced symmetrical diode pair for a classic yet refined overdrive sound, while the lower position reconfigures the clipping into asymmetrical, which breaks up much more like a tube amp than a pedal, for some serious touch sensitivity that you can feel. When the overdriven signal exits the battlefield, it heads straight into a two-band active EQ, containing carefully-calculated treble and bass bands designed for maximum interaction with the drive engine. The Warhorn's ace in the hole is its stacking ability, and pairing it up with almost any other gain pedal fuses the two into a weapon of immeasurable strength, with the Warhorn reinforcing the other pedal regardless of position. And like all other Walrus pedals, the Warhorn is built using a quiver of quality parts by a team of warriors right here in the USA.

This really is one of the most appropriately named overdrives ever, it REALLY has that honking midrange.

I really like the asymmetric mode. It makes a great drive tone and works as a beautiful clean boost too:

Walrus are king of overdrive pedals. I love Warhorn and Mayflower.

Don't think you could have added any more "war" or "battle" related puns there.

Sounds great, but what's the amp/speaker were hearing it through?

here's what I don't understand about the overdrive or boost pedals.

1. I want them all for a few minutes.
2. All I really want is for my amp to work harder and push more harmonics without using artificial clipping or distortion.
3. Everyone says they have a transparent boost but they aren't transparent at all. they all have EQ or at least some tonal character, some sort of distortion and compression before the amps' first stage which may sound "good" in context but certainly adds additional sounds to your amp tone.
4. We all really just want the sound of a really pushed amp from our amps. no?

Why don't we just push our amps with volume or simply boost the input? We all have Master volumes by now.

What up? Where is the most truly transparent boost pedal that adds nothing but input. My amp has a boost built into it but when used it just maxes the volume. Horrible idea. someone does make a level control for this feature. seems like the only true clean boost.

I do like the overdrives I have but they all add something of their own to my amp sound, which is great if I am trying to make it sound like another amp but it always sounds fake. I'm falling out of love with pedals the more that are brought to market. Try this:

get your balls out tone on your amp with just your guitar, the sound that has all the color and response that gets you inspired. turn down your guitar to 7 or 8 and play all of your main stuff. Turn the guitar all the way up for the stuff you want to push through. if that isn't enough then maybe your amp isn't working for you and you need a different one. Or maybe some simple boost up front, if you can find one. I can't.

I think I just come here to watch Andy's playing, which has gotten so damned good over the years.

I played it for 4 months and couldn't found a tone i like...then i realise you have to keep the level all the way up to get some nice tone.

I tot level is like volume so i keep it down...😵‍💫
