One of the few bands that could actually express realistic emotions in their music. When Chester screams, it's not just screaming. It's a person letting out everything they have. Very rare.

I was at work, when news came over the radio, about him.
I was fixing a lawn mower tractor. The tone of the shop went quiet you could hear a bolt drop. And ting an ding across the floor.
I was mad and upset at the time, but, then I put myself in his shoes and how he could have felt. Even though he had millions and had a big fan base for whatever reason he was still sad and depressed and felt his music wasn’t therapeutic for him to get over his demons. From the comments this band touched so many lives. And even though we lost someone we looked up too. I know we all for gave him for his actions and we are all still listening to his music like he is still present on Mother Earth..to this day…

I was 18 when this came out.
I loved this song after seeing them perform it at Ozzfest 2001.

I love the way Chester expressed his feelings screaming so furiously, I just can relate so good to this song, this text describes my life so well. This makes me stronger hearing his anger through the pain, reflecting mine.

The year was 2001. I grew up in a strictly southern baptist household. Christian, country and 80s music was all that I had ever known or heard. My dad past away exactly a week after my 11th birthday. 3 months later, I was at the beach with my family, we'll call it the "greiving beach trip." I went to an icee booth and a song with tunes and lyrics I had NO IDEA existed...(later discovered it was Crawling- Linkin Park) My mom had walked up to check on me bc I had been away too long (by her account) but I had just been stuck finishing this song that had sounds I had never heard before and lyrics that I instantly resonated with, somehow, at 11. She heard it and instantly went Christian mom, spazz. "Devil's music, blah blah blah"

This was the era of Nokia's that were impossibe to destroy, AOL was literally the internet. How you communicated other than email/phone was through AIM or Yahoo Messenger. Limewire/ PirateBay or any pirating media had JUST started becoming a thing I even knew about. A few months after the beach trip from earlier, I was getting ready for school and watching Fuse (at that time, it was like a MTV that actually played music and it played not so mainstream/not commonly heard on the radio music)" In the End" was on and that's how I learned who that awesome song at the beach was by, and the first ever album I ever actually purchased was Hybrid Theory. The album introduced me to to a whole new world of music. It will always hold a special place in my heart. To this day all these years later, if I play Hybrid Theory, I can remember specific feelings and moments from angsty teen me and I still know every lyric to every song.

Meteora was the only other album I enjoyed by them after Hybrid Theory, however, if it werent for HT, I don't know if I would have had the music world I ended up with in my teens (which basically established my identity in HS.) I also developed my tastes into much heavier stuff by that point and after.

The soft keyboard coming in at 2:22 makes this part even better. Such a simple addition but what an effect it has.

The best song from Hybrid Theory in my opinion! They really need to add this to the setlist of live shows again... By Myself and Forgotten are two Forgotten songs.

Can me and my fellow drummers take a minute to appreciate Rob with the cymbals and fills after 2:31. His parts are never super complex but they always sound great

They don't make rock music like this anymore. That guitar is something else

As a young adult I loved this song, having not heard this song in over a decade it randomly popped into my head and I now see I never realized the utter desperation this song cries out for. The feelings this song portrays are things I understand far too well now and damn reading the lyrics hit me like a truck. Very real and very sad song. Undoubtedly a masterpiece.

I was a super heavy sleeper in school so I set the first 9-10 secs of this song as my alarm on full blast. I really enjoyed waking up to it every morning! Idk about my parents or downstairs neighbors tho...

Linkin Park will always be timeless. I remember always getting lost in hours replaying my LP cd for how cool I thought it sounded. Fast forward now and i'm listening all night trying to help myself through some bad depression as a young adult. LP FOREVER.
