How To Play Dream On By Aerosmith - Guitar Lesson - Joe Perry

In this video I demonstrate how to play the introduction of the song Dream On by Aerosmith. This is a mesmerizing and rather tricky part that is an iconic phrase that is immediately identifiable the moment you play the first chord. I show how to play the part on guitar using both finger picking and then with a pick when I show how to play the ending solo lick that wraps the part up before the first verse begins.

"Dream On" is a power ballad by American rock band Aerosmith, from their 1973 eponymous debut album. Written by lead singer Steven Tyler, this song was their first major hit and became a classic rock radio staple. Released in June 1973, it peaked at number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 but hit big in the band's native Boston, where it was the number one single of the year on WBZ-FM, number five for the year on WRKO and number 16 on WMEX (AM).[citation needed] The song also received immediate heavy airplay on the former WVBF (FM), often showing up in the #1 position on "The Top Five at Five" in June 1973.

I had Aerosmith tickets!!! I am bummed. I haven't seen them since the 1980s. They had just gotten back together. There was only about 5, 000 people at the Richfield Coliseum in Cleveland. Crazy. It was so loud my ears rang for three days. I remember Steven Tyler screaming Dream On. He would hocker all over the stage😂 It was gross, but girls were still coming on stage, dressed in barely anything. It is amazing his pipes lasted 50 years after all the screaming, smoking, booze, and drugs. Thanks for the lesson. Dream On!!

I saw Aerosmith in Houston in 1984. They put on a great show. I used to go to a lot of concerts and it was up there among the best.

Pink, as well as Kings and Queens would be two good ones that veer from the usual Aerosmith suspects. I love Pink — lots of cool chords, and nearly anyone can do the rhythm chords without too much effort. Kings and Queens is such so layered with slower and faster parts, but is also doable with chords. I can’t play like Perry, but it’s fun to try!

One way street / King and Queens / Lick and a Promise / Adams apple / Big ten inch record / Sick as a dog
(The real) Round and Round !!! Round and Round has a great rhythm behind the solo . J Perry ? I think ?
Great job Marty . again
