Use ZeroTier with Blue Iris - view your cameras remotely and securely!

My recommended way to view your security cameras remotely while utilizing Blue Iris security camera software is using ZeroTier. ZeroTier is an open source virtual private network (VPN) software and mesh networking technology that allows users to connect devices, services, and applications securely over the Internet. It is designed to be easy to set up and use, and can be used to connect both local and cloud-based services. It is particularly useful for creating secure connections between remote devices, such as those used for telecommuting, IoT, and cloud-based services.

ZeroTier also works for those who have an ISP (internet service provider) who utilizes "CGNAT" or carrier grade nat. CGNAT means you don'e get your own public IP address making it difficult to utilize a client VPN back to your network, or even standard port forwarding.

Excellent tutorial! I either needed to be a little more patient or restarting the Blue Iris service helped get the new adapter recognized. Thank you for putting this together!

Thank you very much. It has been a long road, trying out different brands of cameras and services. But having seen your videos and one other channel (where I decided on using an Amcrest turrett camera), I am now up and running, using Blue Iris, AND remotely viewing my cameras! Wow. No monthly subscription either! Sincere thanks for being a good teacher. You know not to talk too fast, you know how to explain this to people in simple terms. Much appreciated!

I've been trying for ages to get my BI to work remotely however no matter howI tried I could not get IP forwarding to work all ports were in stealth mode even if I opened the relevant ports no joy. Contacted my ISP they were useless beyond their remit. I saw this on utube, set it up and shazam!! it worked! thank you for your brilliant tutorial even a 70yr old like me understood it.

I've been using ZeroTier for a number of years now. Pairing it with an app like Blue Iris is really next level, especially when thinking about home users and their typical security (or lack thereof).

😃😄😄😄Thank you for this wonderful, extremely helpful Blue Iris its a powerful software, but for sure not easy to setup for the regular guy. I´ve been struggling to set access out of my LAN, and with the information of this useful video i was all set in a couple hours.
Thank you and please keep working for the community!!!!

Outstanding. I'm on Starlink and have been trying to figure out how use BI when remote. This is so easy. Thanks!

This video is awesome. Thank you. I followed along step by step and had a small issue, but was able to quickly fix it and now my cameras work perfectly when remotely viewing them away from home. My other solution was to use a double ISP set up because my primary ISP (Starlink) blocks port forwarding. My secondary ISP is a MiFi device on the AT&T network, but my router (MikroTik) is WAY to advanced for me to figure out how to properly set it up that way after several YouTube University videos and trials and errors. Thanks again!

You just saved me $120 a year by not having to pay an extra $10 a month for a static IP to VPN into Blue Iris. Thank you
