Yoshi's Crafted World: Unreal Engine 4... On A Nintendo Game?

Developer Good-Feel extends its yarn-themed games with a new Yoshi release - a first-party Nintendo title based on Unreal Engine 4! Is the Epic middleware a good fit for a Nintendo game? Can the tech deliver the signature locked 60fps seen in the majority of Switch first-party games? A demo is available now - we've played that *and* seen some more levels.

Pushing 60 instead of a hard resolution? Thank you. Maybe more developers should follow suit. Nintendo has always pushed for 60fps in most titles because it makes gameplay feel the best. A platformer should never be 30. It just wouldn't feel right.

Damn, I knew the resolution was low but I didn't realize it was THAT low. Game still manages to look great, though.

Ayo I was dying when he showed us Yoshis new Island music... sounds like a parody..

I honestly didn’t notice the resolution dropped that low..
I think it’s the fact that the colours blend in nicely with each other and the art style helps to make it less noticeable

3:26 "so while it's still a 2d platformer on paper" HA good pun.

I don't think the soundtrack is strong, but it's nowhere near as awful as New Island was. Plus we've still yet to hear the other tracks, so I'm holding out hope that it'll get better

10:02 straight up thought the "Song of Storms" from Ocarina of Time was about to play...

Came back here because Princess Peach Showtime! is running on the same engine, has half of the FPS as this, and is made by the same dev studio.

Yoshi's Woolly World had a pretty good soundtrack, with "Bowser's Castle Halls" being a major stand out. Not surprising, as the game was co-composed by Tomoya Tomita, who worked on the underrated Wario Land: Shake it/The Shake Dimension.

Yoshi's Story & Yoshi Island DS, while not as good as the original, do have some catchy tunes.

Yoshi's New Island is pretty bad, but there are some hidden gems in the soundtrack, like the special level theme.

Whaaaat? Wooly World has the best Nintendo soundtrack of 2015-2016.

"Watch video, get informed" - Sadly there will always be those trolls who comment without watching the video.

Great video that got me even more excited to play the game! I love Nintendo’s dedication to getting many of their games running at 60FPS.

I personally really like the mellow soundtrack of the new game, but hey to each their own.

I'm glad they are focusing on frame rate rather than resolution. While I got used to it after a while, I wish Kirby Star Allies was 60fps rather than 30fps

6:34 The drop to 30 FPS mode is analogous to how games used to switch from 240p to 480i for crisper menus, or you could compare that to how a codec works where motion obscures resolution drops while stillness has to be more crisp.
