I had a situation because of my Tourette's , but once I explained to them that I had Tourette's , they were very warm and kind, and understanding. Educating people about Tourette's made all the difference. Now this awesome family is fighting to help people be aware of Tourette's. Please share so people will be educated. Thank you so much.

As someone who as tics, this makes me upset because we can’t control it, it takes practice but it could take years, so I feel bad for him

I've had similar issue, man. It sucks... at least they seemed chill. I once had a cop tackle me and accuse me of being under the influence.

This is disgusting. I’m glad those officers were so understanding.

I have Epilepsy, I wouldn't wish this nightmare on my worst enemy. The police in my area are cool about it, because they know me, now. Before, they thought I was either on drugs or drunk, so I'd get tackled and arrested. People call them all the time on me. Now, they pretty much know how to handle the Post-Ictal. You definitely have my support.

Sorry this happens to you. I also have a child with Tourette's. Some of our local police stations have a program that you can sign up and let them know you are a person with a medical issue like tourettes or autism so they know ahead of time and can respond appropriately.

I've had cops accuse me of being high or drunk, and they were NOT very nice about it.

This just made me wonder if police getting trained, mandatory training, on these various syndromes and what to look for and how to respond to it. I think this is an extremely important segment to incorporate into our police education program and also just general education programs for both students and teachers so that as a society we can cohesively empathize and connect and protect each other better

The same thing has happened to me. I have Tourretes as well. I've had police called on me because I was with my child in the park and I couldn't stop having tics. Someone thought I was having a seizure and called the police. Actually a common misconception...

It is so hard to live with this and people cant have a simple open mind and accept that people are less fortunate

I have Tourette's syndrome too I was diagnosed with it when I was only seven years old. I'm 20 now and it is still there, i've gotten used to it a little bit but some people still just don't understand I wish they did. I've always been so insecure about it so when people say something about it I just tell them I can't help it. It's nothing we can control and I hope people will do research on it and realize how difficult it can be.

fear for any tourettes individual is cops not understanding it and deciding to taze you or worse.

it's so sad that people without disablities feel the need to call police on people with disablilaties.
i have many friends with disablieties. i have cronic pain and have gotten introuble because of it (people many times have called me a liar). But it also makes my laugh my a55 off because of how stupid people can be or of how much people just want attention.

People need to be Educated on this matter
I know I’m not fully caught up with it or how they deal with this but at least I know it’s hard...
