Νέος Μαρμαράς, Σιθωνία Χαλκιδική. Neos Marmaras, Sithonia Chalkidiki

Ο Νέος Μαρμαράς αποτελεί τον μεγαλύτερο οικισμό της Σιθωνίας με 3.500 κατοίκους. Ιδρύθηκε το 1924 από Μικρασιάτες πρόσφυγες, οι οποίοι ήρθαν κυρίως από το ομώνυμο νησί της Προποντίδας. Περιβάλλεται από ένα καταπράσινο τοπίο, αντιπροσωπευτικό της χερσονήσου της Σιθωνίας ενώ βρίσκεται στη σκιά του όρους Μελίτωνα. Σημείο αναφοράς αποτελούν οι εκκλησίες του Νέου Μαρμαρά, όπως του Προφήτη Ηλία και των Παμμεγίστων Ταξιαρχών, χτισμένες σε σημεία με εντυπωσιακή θέα. Στη νότια άκρη του Νέου Μαρμαρά βρίσκεται το μετόχι της μονής Οσίου Γρηγορίου, το οποίο χτίστηκε το 1863 κι έπαιξε καταλυτικό ρόλο στον Μακεδονικό Αγώνα ως κέντρο ανεφοδιασμού των Ελλήνων μαχητών. Η κυριότερη ασχολία των κατοίκων είναι το ψάρεμα και ο συνεχώς αυξανόμενος τουρισμός.

Neos Marmaras is the largest settlement in Sithonia with 3,500 inhabitants. It was founded in 1924 by Asia Minor refugees, who came mainly from the homonymous island of Propontis. It is surrounded by a verdant landscape, representative of the Sithonia peninsula while it is in the shadow of Mount Melitonas. A point of reference are the churches of Neos Marmaras, such as the Prophet Elias and the Panmegiston Taxiarches, built in places with an impressive view. On the southern edge of Neos Marmaras is the metochi of the monastery of Saint Gregory, which was built in 1863 and played a catalytic role in the Macedonian Struggle as a supply center for the Greek fighters. The main occupation of the inhabitants is fishing and the constantly growing tourism
