Fusion is supposed to represent some sort of relationship. It could be for strength, for show, or for love. Technically, what lapis went through was domestic abuse. The amount of trauma in something like that can really take a toll on someone's mental health.

Peridot likes being tall, She can't actually fuse Cause it makes her uncomfortable so I put her on my shoulders so she can be tall instead.

I loved that whoever did this respected the fact that Peridot is aroace, which, in the world of Steven Universe, is represented as "never want to fuse".

I love how they didn't actually fuse because it keeps in character with Peri's aroace identity and Lapis' fusion-related PTSD
