This was my grandfather's plane. They restored it on a farm in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Then donated it to the museum.

My Grandmother worked at Eastern Aircraft in Linden, NJ during the war. My Grandfather was a waist gunner on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force. Grandmother worked the third shift. My Great Grandmother watched the kids: my Dad and Aunt.

They're all deceased, but I have the memories of the stories they told, and I have my Grandmother's I.D. badge from Eastern Aircraft.

My Dad was an inspector at Eastern Aircraft in Baltimore from 1943 thru 1945 where many of the Avengers were built.

I have to admire the young pilots who flew these plans. There is so much to learn in that cockpit not to mention the stress on flying and combat. I swear I don't know how they did it. I don't think I could learn all the buttons and switches. My father was a gunner on a TBM and he said his pilot was a small man but was very smart. My father had a lot of interesting tales but unfortunately he just passed away from a botched surgery.

Thank you so much for these very well done tours. I am currently reading "Intrepid Aviators: The True Story of USS Intrepid's Torpedo Squadron 18 and its Epic Clash with The Superbattleship Musashi" by Gregory G. Fletcher. Your tours really help me understand what the men were doing at their stations.

I'm a scale modler trying to reproduce my uncle's TBM-1 from the war. This is clearly a TBM-3 by the absence of the trapazoid shaped exhaust on the exterior engine cowling, but it also has the arch-shaped instrument panel in the cockpit (see 1:29). My reserach let me to believe the TBM-1 had this shape and the 3's had a horizontal flat dashboard shape. Can anyone clarify this? Both shapes came with my kit, but I'm not sure which one was really in the 1 vs. 3 now. Thanks...

I could do without the background music. Distracting. Also, Stand for the national anthem. Watch Sam Morrison Band music video "I will always stand" on YouTube.
