Power Scholars Academy Highlight

Since 2016, the Y's Power Scholars Academy has provided an alternative to summer school, structured to address summer learning loss. These summer learning gaps have grown threefold in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and virtual learning. The Y, alongside local/state leaders and Chesapeake Public Schools, worked together to ensure increased funding to serve 1200 more summer school kids than in years past could be involved in the program for the entirety of their summer school session, at no cost to their families.

I absolutely love this family and it is a real pleasure to have them in our after school program. Making a positive impact on the lives of children in our community is so important to me and I’m so grateful to the YMCA for giving me the tools to make this happen over the years.
