Top Kapi- Manos Hadjidakis - Gus Vali

Ένα θέμα από τη μουσική της ταινίας ''Top Kapi'' που έγραψε ο Μάνος Χατζιδάκις. Εδώ σε διασκευή, με χρώμα ανατολής από τον Ελληνοαμερικανό Gus Vali.
Gus Vali -- Mr Greek Clarinet / Biography
His parents were Greeks from Marmaras of Asia Minor. He grew up in New York and as soon as the graduated from Manhattan College, he stated working as a professional musician. He set out spectacurarly playing saxophone, flute and clarinet in Big Bands such as the bands of Artie Swaw, Louis Prima, Ian Augoust, Jonny Long, Sonny Dunham. But his love of Greek music urged him to create his own band, a band which would play Greek music mostly but with an American aspect. The first recording took place in New York in 1958 and it was the dreamy "Marocco". For the next fifteen years, Gus Vali and his band would be in great demand and they would appear in all major clubs of USA and Canada. The basic musicians of Gus Vali band, were the bassist Louis Barreiro, the percussionists Chet Amsterdam and John Yalenezian and the pianist and producer Norman Gold. The band accompanyied many Greek and foreign singers such as Stavros Tzouanakos, Iordanis Tsomides, Milton Stamos, Petros Nikolaou, Chr. Christopoulos and many others. Gus Vali is perhaps the most interesting and inscrutable case of Greek-American musician since the 60's, but his work is ignored in Greece. Today Gus Vali lives in New York.

Gus Vali (Αυγουστίνος Βαλής)
Το πραγματικό του όνομα ήταν Αυγουστίνος Βαλής. Οι γονείς του ήταν Έλληνες από τον Μαρμαρά της Μικράς Ασίας. Μεγάλωσε στη Νέα Υόρκη. Αποφοίτησε από το Κολέγιο του Μανχάταν και έγινε αμέσως επαγγελματία μουσικός.
Ξαφνιάζει το ξεκίνημά του, όπου έπαιζε σαξόφωνο, φλάουτο και κλαρίνο στις μεγάλες Αμερικανικές ορχήστρες των Artie Swaw, Louis Prima, Ian Augoust, Jonny Long, Sonny Dunham. Η αγάπη του, όμως, για την ελληνική μουσική και για τη μουσική της Μέσης Ανατολής τον ώθησαν στο να δημιουργήσει την ορχήστρα που θα υπηρετούσε το δικό του όραμα. Μια ορχήστρα με κύρος που θα έπαιζε ελληνική, κυρίως, μουσική αλλά και μουσικές του κόσμου με μια Αμερικανική αισθητική.
