So the M5 had a 6 cylinder put in it, instead of the V8. The 6 cylinder engine (S52) came out in 1996, which makes it nearly 20 years old....and it's still beating new American muscle. That's impressive.

if you look closely, this looks to be the E39 V8 00-03 model M5...the rounded mirrors, the door vent/tweeter, and the passenger-dash airbag...now for my .02, stock vs stock the E39 M5 won't come close BUT look at it this way to be named the fastest production sedan on the planet (as well as out of it's class) the M5 didn't need forced induction...plus if you force feed the V8 in this particular year/model M5 she's capable of 600+ to the wheels on "STOCK" internals...so neither car is superior in terms of what's needed to win, but if you judge them by age it's like rebuilding an old GT500 and lining it up w/a new GT500...the youngster has no chance...

hellcat cannot be compared to m5, m5 is comparable to srt line of the charger, hellcat is comparable to m5 G-power hurricane rr, 800 hp, and that would destroy a hellcat, btw its not just about HP, its how well balanced the vehicle is all around. They need to make a fair comparison of the G-power m5 hurricane vs the hellcat and that would be a true result.

No 1 automaker makes the best car and that's what auto customization is for. I have a supercharged ls3 in my E46 M3 because that's what's best for me. Looking for an American IRS to incorporate also. What works for some doesn't work for others... If his M5 is better for him with a S52, so be it. I dig it!!
