Glazes

I have yet to learn, in depth, of glaze chemistry to develop my own glazes, so I opted for commercially made glazes. An amazing potter I met on here, has recommended the “Understanding Glazes” online course by Ceramic Material Workshop which I aim to take after this project is completed.

Also, I did do a brush on glaze because I was only using each glaze on four mugs. If I were to have picked one for the final mug, I would buy the powdered dip glazes- the brush on was just more economical in this case (def makes me appreciate dip glazes more though).

I think if I were to try any more glazes (close to white, off-white, satin, matte) it would be really hard to compete against the natural clay body color. It’s just so pretty.

Thank you for watching, like and follow along and I’ll see you in the next video.

I like that. The clay gets to shine on its own.

I like the clear choice, it shows the artistic talent underneath, completely agree that the white felt like it was hiding the mug. Keep it up!

totally agree, especially with the warmer toned less stark white clays, it feels much more natural and nice.

I completely agree actually, seeing the others on the mug seems to almost cover up the ridges but the clear highlights it more, it pops ❤

I like the clear glaze, it's simple and I think that's what this mug needs!

I do like the matte look, but agree on seeing the natural clay qualities shine through.

Just found your channel, nice seeing your progression. The clay body color is always a great choice. My best selling mugs are only glazed inside and top 1/4 of the mug. Picking a sold color glaze can be boring. I like layering my glazes to make cool effects. My most recent favorite is winterwood base with cenote over the top to cone6. Both glazes made my mayco. Makes a beautiful blue with brown speckles.

The lip of the mug is shaped in a way that will surely spill coffee or whatever you're drinking, past the corners of your mouth.

Ah glazing. My least favorite part of ceramics. 🥲 thank you for the information though. It’s much more than my class was able to fit into the course last summer.
