I was honestly really surprised to hear you two being so negative about this book, when you're usually so positive about all of them! It's one of my favourites! I would absolutely disagree about this being a "skip it" book, but I definitely understand if people aren't as enthusiastic about the art style in it. As someone with a design degree and background, I looove how so much of the concept art is based in simple shapes and bold colours. And honestly, I thought the balance between pictures and text was perfect for me. And I really don't mind white space on a page. It's a very important aspect of graphic design. :P I think the way it's set up gives every picture the attention it deserves, without overcrowding the page with visuals. Also, The Incredibles is my absolute favourite Pixar movie! :)
Anyway, keep doing what you're doing. I love seeing your videos because it exposes me to so many art books I want to add to my library!

Well I enjoyed the book. Maybe I'm a bit biased as it was my first art of book, and paid 10 dollars less than you two, but there's a lot of bold designs in it, and you get to see more of the architecture and alternate designs. Could it have been put together better and had more content? Sure. But I wouldn't skip it by a long shot. I wonder if they held back a bit because of the influence they had from licensed non Disney properties?

I believe it was a nice book, It really was clean and graphical, but I also believe it resembles what the movie was supposed to be in terms of character and landscape design.
I really liked it and by reading all of the pixar art books I really enjoy the evolution of the CG industry it self and how they evolved into explaining what they where going through.
In the end it provides learning and I wouldn't give a bad review for it.

Agree with you on this one. Read it the other night, the Mirage bit was definitely disappointing. Got to it thought great this will be interesting then nope only a few pictures of her and her name... Booo

I'm not really that happy with the artbook of The Incredibles  I was tired of looking at drawings of rooms and buildings by the end. I was hoping to see more later-on sketches and designs of all the characters, especially some of the one-off characters that we only saw in quick pictures or flashbacks. Still I love the abstract artwork of Teddy Newton. The way he created characters through collage is such a gift to work with in my art classes! My students simply loved it! So I actually do like it! But like you said: if you don't like the collages, you're not going to like the artbook.

I was wondering, after listening to your review when you spoke about getting some books that had lots of photos in them(I assume these are also behind the scenes books), would you mind telling me what type of books you are talking about as well as the ones that also have lots of text to it? I have an interest in making movies & being a cartoonist myself & I like finding out how they make special effects.I hope to be a filmmaker myself some day.

As someone who went to school as well as worked with Teddy Newton and Lou Romano, I love their styles. But....the book is just too loaded with it and not enough of the other things that made this film so great. Most notably the tons of character design that people (and another one of my old workmates) Tony Fucile did on the film.
And it's really a missed opportunity. Especially for such and amazing film.
