Bird person was right here. Even though rick is speaking the truth, that mindset is incredibly dangerous to you and everyone around you. As we have seen. I remember when rick revived bird person and all he had was all consuming hate and rage after being revived. "I KNEW YOUD RUIN MY LIFE" vibes.

A lot of people focus on how Rick is incapable of expressing his emotions in this scene, but they totally miss the fact that our rick interacting with memory shows massive growth

Rick took that hard.

It's hard to take obviously, but Rick makes himself seem so outwardly detached you wouldnt think he genuinley cared about Bird-Persons answer one way or the other.

When Ricks all alone with nothing but memories; he can't hide that for all his god complex and nihilism, deep down he genuinely cares about people and wants to be open and vulnerable with them.

This paints a more tragic picture of a man whos past trauma and defence mechsnisms prevent him from ever having a very simple and universal human experience.

Its a cool concept for a character. It speaks to real life while also being a rediculous and over the top cartoon premise.

For all the hate R&M gets, Id take this over the standard familly sitcom schlock anyday.

Ok, I think I finally get what's going on here: Rick is being a selfish dick that wants to hang out with Birdperson in a new universe while Birdperson wants to stay and continue fighting this war that's "far from over". Leaving now would mean abandoning his brothers in arms to go chill with Rick. That's what the whole 'integrity" line was about.

I just realised that Rick probably never used that beacon before the party where BP met Tammy.

Knowing Rick the entire party might have been an excuse to see BP again, but not to seem like he missed him.

I like how the show does this parallel between fantasy and real life to express certain aspects of the human condition. As far as we can tell, life has no inherent meaning therefore nothing actually matters except for the things you've decided matter to you personally. To Rick that battle meant nothing but sharing that moment w bird person did.
