Sorry guys. I meant that in November of 2020 (not 2019), I landed my first finance internship.

Great video. Definitely agree. The school that you go to doesn't define how you will do not just in the finance world, but in general. Those sites like Macleans are just full of publicity and those ratings are just numbers by the end of the day. Just want to say thanks because your videos have helped me a lot through my application process this year. Keep up all the great work you're doing at mac!

Needed this video😄 Current Grade 12 right who's applying to business and I'm exactly what you've described - I care about starting salary, rankings, etc. Gonna be thinking a lot after this. Too bad I wasn't able to tour universities cause of the pandemic :(

Thank you for this video!! I’m currently in my first year at DeGroote and I was really unsure at first. I’ve loved watching your videos and they have helped convince me that I made the right decision.

No idea why I stumbled across your video as someone who already graduated but 100% agree with you that students should choose a university they see themselves thriving at instead of focusing on rankings. I think the same can apply for job hunting too — smaller firms or lesser known companies can sometimes pay more and give you a better experience. Graduated from Laurier BBA in the middle of the pandemic and I think I turned out fine :) you end up working with all the Ivey, Queens and Rotman kids anyways after you graduate so might as well save the $$$ going to a more lowkey school.

This makes me feel a lot better about choosing Mac commerce over laurier bba. Thanks!

I feel like god just blessed me with this video. I have been thinking a lot about this recently and I’m trying to decide between Laurier bba and Ivey hba. I really don’t like 2+2 and lack of co op at ivey, but I keep telling myself it’s better simply cause it’s a “target school”. I think what you were saying about going somewhere you’ll thrive has been something I’ve been subconsciously feeling. Thanks for making this, I feel like my choice is a lot clearer now!

I'm still waiting to hear from ontario business schools & was worried about literally everything you mentioned here.. especially how reddit keeps saying western and queens are the best for business lol. Deep down I know that I don't really click with both schools. I needed honest insight & this was so helpful. Thanks!

Agreed. Connections mean more for that job than any business program will do for you :(

Thank you so much for making this video. I got into Rotman and AEO as well but I decided to go to Laurier. I’m still in my first year, and I lose sleep because the ranking of my school is in my head. I’m constantly asking myself if it’s the wrong choice, however, this video really made me feel more confident.

Hi! I’m thinking of applying to uft for their management program (not Rotman, just the individual program). Although it’s not a business school, would it still be ok if I wanted to get into the finance industry?

I'm actually willing to come canada for my undergraduate and I'm really confused about choosing uni. Your channel helps

You are absolutley right, the degree is nothing but a ticket to get into the industries, but nothing else. I am from europe and I am enrolled in the master‘s programme in business at one of mcmaster‘s partner universities (I will hopefully come to mcmaster for an exhange semester). My uni is ranked between 60th and 75th in some european business school rankings. Since we have some quite „elite“-business schools in the country, rankend in the top 10, my uni has the reputation of being a pretty good business school, but not among the outstanding ones. But in the end, I am working for one of the most popular companies in my country alongside with people from elite-business schools like Harvard, Bocconi, HEC Paris and Copenhagen Business School (I know the european ones are not that well-known in north america, but you can compare them to Ivies in the field of business). And in the end nobody im the business world cares where you‘ve studied, especially after a few years of experience. I don‘t remember talking once about universities with my colleagues. So the degree is your ticket to get in, your attitude is what will bring you further.

Hey could you tell me what’s the difference between a MB and a MBA in McMaster?

I have to disagree. As someone who has worked in various "target banks in Canada'", i observed that the majority of students who get an offer are those from target schools. Yes, it is possible to get a co-op placement at a reknown company with a "non-target" background but it is much more difficult.
