SLEEVE NOTES.
None fo the history books of pop would be complete without some reference to Emile Ford, the Nassau-born singer who topped the British charts for five weeks back in 1959! The song he did it with – “What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For” was his sole million seller and its unquestionably the song by which Emile will always be remembered.
Certainly its inclusion on this new album, recorded by Emile in Sweden where he now makes his home and his career, will come as no surprise to those who remember his conquest of the charts in the late 50’s. But this LP is more than just one memorable song, its also a fair indication of the vocal talent that Emile possesses and how well he uses it on songs like “Cotton Fields Back Home”, “Sugar Sugar” and “Lucky Old Sun”. Emile’s musical education began in London where he learned to play guitar and sang in local coffee bars before winning a talent contest and the recording contract that went with it.
These days, although his name may not feature in the charts, he’s a far from forgotten figure. Cabaret appearances and recording keep him busy and listening to him singing this selection of good songs is a timely reminder of his unique vocal talent. (1971).
Michael Emile Telford Miller (16 October 1937 – 11 April 2016), known professionally as Emile Ford.
