This is why fawns get kidnapped by well meaning humans. Momma deer leaves their fawns hiding like this while she goes away from them to eat. She comes back only to feed them until they are big enough to keep up with her. People think the dawn is abandoned or is an orphan, when really, mom isn’t far away.

That's why when you find one LEAVE it ALONE ! If look real close in the brush you may see the Doe ? She will only go to the fawn to nurse it . Then leaves as not to spread scent around the area !

Even cats and dogs feel weird about Fawns because they're odourless, poking them and such to figure out what it is.

The biggest part to take from this is to just leave it alone. Don't touch it, don't watch it, just leave it alone. The mother will come back eventually. Well usless you know what happens but yeah just leave it alone

I was tracking dogs in the woods, almost stepped on one. It jumped up, and took off. It was dark and motionless, I just missed seeing it.

Spent about fifteen minutes cleaning around my gate before locking it up one day. Looked over right as I got in the truck to leave and caught a fawn out of the corner of my eye. Believe it or not seeing them even on a piles of leaving is incredibly difficult.

3. Cannot differentiate pavement from tall grass

Its actuallt quite effective against predators because we humans are really good at extracting colors but they can remain motionless on literally plain road which would be obvious prey on first sight 🗿😂
