In our opinion the Ford EcoBoost engine is pretty damn good! Whats your thoughts?

The total brake failure that my son experienced while coming off the slip road at Junction 10 on the M23 motorway was terrifying and he (and his apprentice) were fortunate not to have been involved in a major accident at this busy junction.
The cause of the failure is well documented - the use of the wet belt inside the EcoBoost engine causes delamination over time. Debris from it eventually clogs the pick up pipe and vacuum pump which then fails causing the brake pedal to go hard.
The brake pedal simply cannot be depressed to slow the vehicle no matter how hard you try.
He is self-employed and relies on his Ford Transit Custom van everyday. It is currently at a Hendy Ford garage awaiting a goodwill gesture from Ford - as it is a few months out of warranty - yet the wet belt was not due to be changed for another 30, 000 miles at the earliest. The current estimated cost of the repairs are £1, 800! In addition, the failure of the wet belt may have caused damage to the turbo and the cost to replace it would be £1, 000 according to Hendy. He has had the vehicle regularly serviced - using the specified oil.
Ford have a duty to undertake the repairs - and cover any additional damages resulting from the delamination of the wet belt but they are digging their heels in - offering a fraction of the repair cost. "Pretty damn good engine"? You're having a laugh.

I had a 2017 1L ecoboost fiesta up until recently. Serviced every 8 and a half to 9K miles as I do about 11K a year at my local garage ( myself, family and friends all go to the same garage and have done for year's). Full service as required and as of February this year, the cars wet belt failed destroying the vac pump and destroying the turbo. The car is out of warranty, I am now left to pick up the pieces.

The fact of the matter is this... I always go to the same garage and have a service done as required. 0 cheap parts, component are used. All OEM and all that Ford recommends. The fact that you said these engines fail due to cheap servicing is quite insulting as ive always looked after my car and took my car to a reputable garagle. Theirs a reason why Fords parent company has recalled all the 1L ecoboost in the USA. Nothing to do with cheap servicing, the engine itself is a cheap nasty design on Fords part. Nothing more.

I also didn't realise it was the 1st of April... just assumed it was since you said " pretty damn good engine". Certainly nothing good about these engines, unless if you enjoy seeing them fail.

Nice to see some balanced commentary regarding this engine. I feel there's something of an echo chamber relating to the wet belt issues and a distorted level of hate towards the engine as a result. Easy to say when you haven't suffered an issue yourself though to be fair. As you say, there are millions of them our there and whilst there's no shortage of failures I too am pretty confident that regular servicing (actually, probably just regular oil changes) is sufficient mitigation against the risk. I've just done the belt on my wife's 2013 Fiesta - it is 10 years old and done 75k miles - and whilst the belt surface certainly looked different (small cracks) compared to the new one the oil pick up strainer had barely anything in it so whilst degradation had arguably started we were still some way off catastrophic failure. I have have every confidence in it giving us many more years service and overall - car and engine - it's been a great buy.

Change the oil at each year or 7-9K km with what Ford recommends and belt at each 90-100K Km and all will be fine with this type of engines.

Amazing engine in my eyes, and its so so fuel efficient. Holy cow, I can get 1.000km with one full tank out of it. With a petrol engine. That is perfect engineering. And yes, it might be a bit sensitive when you miss out on services..but well, it's just as you said in your videos. Don't miss it, rather get it serviced a bit too early than too late and this engine will be the daily driver everyone wants. Fast, efficient, reliable, fun to drive.

Years of bad habits, cheap parts, people trying to save every penny, cracking eggs in the radiator and DIY.
Now we must use specific parts and only get serviced at the dealer or you're not covered. I bet most people have no idea about wet belts and specifics of servicing, same thing with a bloody DPF. What normal person knows to take your diesel up the M-way every few hundred miles.

i drove focus mk3 1.0 for 10 years-122k km.. and sold it last year, september 2023.. and bought a new 2023 focus active 1.0. go to service, pay for original oil, you would have no problems. my friend drove f3 1.0 for 220k km. and new 1.0 has chain timing belt. consumption for f3 is 6 lt/100km..new 1.0: 5, 7/100

I love my 1.0L Fiesta. Pound for pound it's the best car I've ever owned.

Completely agree, great engine ( 1.0, 125 Fiesta) the 'issues' all seem to be "cheapening" the servicing>

Controversial engine but I like driving it.

main dealer hi-tech here, the only engine worse than ecoboom is the pureshite from stelliantis.
we buy ex motab vehicles, 3 - 4yrs old, manufacturers servicing, so no excuses there, fords do 50-60k then die, but puretech are failing at 30-40k, but are a lot easier to fix than the fords. admittedly we are doing 2-3 every week, so it will be getting quicker to fix them. servo failure is scary in the fords, and way too common... and "vauxhall" [aka peugeot] are a sensor/diag nightmares...

Fords are very reliable compared to other brands of vehicles. 2.0 TDI passat engine failed due to oil pump failure

EXACTLY, EXACTLY, EXACTLY...!

But..., because lying is in the human's nature like breathing air, those who whine about how their Ecoboost died and stuff like that do either one of the following or maybe all wrong:

1. Poor/cheap and/or wrong grade oil and change it very late according to it's quality.
2. The oil pickup screen (which is usually responsible for the death of all Ecoboosts) is almost NEVER CHECKED by the idiots who think that they've bought an Ecoboost and there's no need to verify anything on a wet belt technology and simply let that oil pickup screen clog up..., the oil pump can't ensure enough oil pressure anymore, especially during cold starts when the oil is thick anyway and is almost zero flowing through the clogged screen and the engine wears itself up day after day until the rod bearings start making noises (the engine is called dead for that).
3. Not letting THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE idle for at least 1 minute during cold weather (below 5 Celsius or so).

If these wankers who want performance but never want to do their job correctly and take correct care of this engine would stop blaming the engine for their mistakes, this engine can last a lot in their hands even if raced all day long.

10k miles oil change is too much, I change oil every 8500max9000 km(not miles)!

I know it's a great engine and easy to maintain, why don't Ford just make simple straight forward engines anymore 👍

Well done guys!!! You wanna defend the worst engine that Ford has ever made???? The 1/0 and the 1.6 are basically disasterous. I would take your video down, honestly. DANGEROUS engine!!!!
