I do agree with the "wrong place, wrong time" argument but for a different reason than most here. It wasn't about the birthday party or saving face. It was simply about the person receiving the bad news. They deserve to process and go through all the emotions in private when something like this happens. Bad news is tough enough without having to worry about what others are thinking and how you are supposed to feel.

Forget what anyone else but "Bianca" thinks. OP did that poor girl a favor, and the family is being a bunch of a-holes for suggesting that OP let that go on unchecked when someone there knew and was in a position to help her. Shows just how much they Really care about her, that they'd have let her bf cheat on her at her own bday party. It was better to ruin the party for her than let her find out later on that they'd been cheating on her During the party and people had known but not bothered to tell her.

On the one hand I get where people are saying wrong place wrong time, but on the other after getting out of a 7 year relationship by finding my ex cheating on me there is never going to be a better time than sooner, also at least doing it this way may suck in the short term but it leaves no room for them to try and control the narrative later
