A good-quality, well-adjusted bra in the right size can make all the difference, both in comfort and appearance.
The first step to identifying your bra size is measuring around the bottom of the band directly under the bust using a measuring tape (while not wearing a bra or this can be done wearing a non-padded bra), wrap the measuring tape firmly directly under your bust.
For the most accurate result, It may help to get another person to measure you.
Remember, these measurements only serve as a guide, since your size may vary depending on styles.

STEP 1

Ensure to round the number to the nearest whole number.
If the number is even add 4” to your measurement (so if you measured 32” your band size is 36”).
If the number is odd add 5” (so if you measure 33” your band size is 38”).

STEP 2

Wrap the measuring tape somewhat loosely around the fullest part of your chest. Ensure to round to the measurement to the nearest whole number just as you did in step 1.

STEP 3

The final step is calculating your cup size.
Subtract your band size measurement from your bust measurement and refer to the chart size.

For example:
if your bust size is 37” and your band size is 34 inches,
37 - 34 = 3, Your bra size is 34C

FOR REGULAR BRAS. Don't add any inches to your band measurement except to round up to the nearest even number. Your under bust measurement (taken tightly) is your band size. Every inch difference to your bust measurement is a cup size (1 inch A, 2 B, 3C, etc). When buying a new bra make sure the band fits tight and low, but not so right that it hurts. Hope this helps.

I’ve never been so confused in my life

I've measured myself for a solid half hour and I don't understand why I can't get a consistent size...

You have to subtract the original band number from bust number to get your cup size off the chart (before adding the 4 or 5) that is the most accurate I’ve seen. According to other methods I’d suffocate in those sizes lol

I was so confused until I got to this. It was short and to the point. Thank you.

For regular bra sizes don't add anything to your original band size to find your correct bra size. I'm a 40 Band my bust is 45. Bust 45- Band 40 is 5 going to the chart I am a DD. To buy a bra my perfect size is 40 DD which does fit me perfectly.

YOU SHOULDN'T ADD NUBERS TO YOUR BAND SIZE! This is the old way and it is the reason most women in the past wore the wrong size...I have boobs but when i added 4/5 to my band and did the calculations I got a difference of -1....Nobody can have a negative size boobs, even a person with a flat chest...

Measuring the band size, the tape was not level. She was following the band in back which wrongly appeared to be rising up. You do NOT add any inches to the band measurement.

i tried but doesnt make sense. after adding 4 or 5 to get the band size, it turns out my burst and band size is the same, so i should wear AA cup? all my bras are cup C...

Oh lord no. You DO NOT add any inches to your underbust measurement. This was from back before the 1960s. Why do these proclaimed "bra fitting" guides keep giving people info that's like 60 years out of date??

I'm trying to understand this. My girl needs to be fitted for a good bra, but, her's are pretty big. I'm talking G cup. So, how would one measure those, seeing as they're not, ( for lack of a better term ) average sized?

I knew when she said add 4, that's not right. I weigh 150 but I'm no size 40!!

My band is 28 but adding 4 its 32. I have been a 32 for a while so I know that's right, but my chest is 34. I am NOT a B. I haven't been since 6th grade (I'm a junior now). I have been wearing a D for a year I'm confused.

This works for me. My band size is 26 and th bust is 31. If I don't add the 4 to the band size the cup will fit my head.

According to this, which is similar to all other instructions I have followed, I measure in as 36 D. This is a joke. I actually wear 36F, 36G & own bras saying 36EE too. Any smaller cup size will not work. I am in my fifties so have been at this for many years... I have been professionally measured but in the end, it comes down to whizzing in & out of the changing room with multiple attempts for each bra design. I have always needed 3 cups or more than I supposedly measured at.
I am in the process of measuring my own daughter & it is not looking correct already. She is 29 under chest & 34 bust, which supposedly means cup size AA. She is nowhere near that, I can already see she will be at least a B.
I bought her first bra directly on under chest measurement (I forgot how to add the 5 inches) and have to say that it turned out too short - I had to buy her an extender so it would fit. But the cup size I guessed at - sports bra stye) was fine.
