Also can we appreciate that in each caption the *whole* crew is tagged. From Director to Styling Assistant, very nice to see

a really important note, this is what she thought would be her last album, she thought she was going to die and this is what she made for folks to remember her by. I think it provides alot of context to her motivations

Halsey recreating Amy Lee's album cover had me earnestly revisiting Evanescence after 10 years. They still eat

Friendly reminder that this album is basically a representation of how she felt while being seriously thinking she was going to die. There's a lot of people being grossly mean about it, claiming she has "main character syndrome" because she's being hella sentimental and dramatic... It's because she literally thought she was gonna die, she was really really sick. I think the referencing of different artists was just her way of finding comfort through the process of this album

"Easiest way to build an audience is to reference things that already have an audience" is genuinely brilliant marketing advice.

as someone in multimedia design to specifically focus on music and being a fan of Halsey for almost 10 years, I’m OBSESSED with what Halsey did here. ITS ABSOLUTELY GENIUS

Her and Charli are GENIUS at marketing.

Hopefully the album is greater than the sum of its references. To pull this off she must add her own flavor and direction. This reminds me of Lupe Fiasco’s samari album about Amy Whinehouse learning how to rap.

Thiiiis explains the wild tonal shift throughout the album. It’s got some country, some nu-alt rock, softer alt/folk. I was so confused expecting it to be a rock album only lmao. I was not paying attention to the marketing at all, just bought it because I liked the rock songs I heard from it. She’s best when she’s screaming in her songs I think personally.

I'm sure it also helps promote her makeup line by showing how much it can change her appearance, the colours, etc.

For anyone seeking context, I have many of the exact diagnoses Halsey has and very similar diagnosed, comparable conditions to their other diagnosed conditions as well, even if they’re not the exact same diagnoses, and I can provide some context and explanation of the conditions and name some others they probably alone have that they don’t mention in their general explanation, and talk a little about what it’s like to live with.

The big one Halsey has that I *don’t* have problems with is Lupus, which is a big one indeed and a huge compounding factor for their other conditions, namely autoimmune. That said, I’m going to copy one previous response here describing our similarities in diagnosis and what it’s like!

Looking at the list of diagnoses Halsey (and I) live with, these are all for forever, but they seem to be in moderate remission (their disease process is controlled) for autoimmune (WBC) disease and Lupus. It makes a huge difference in your ability to function when your autoimmune condition is treated (mine is not yet). As far as the “big three” (Ehlers Danlos, her dysautonomia — POTS, and the immune mediated, allergy like disease that often causes repeated risk for anaphylaxis, those don’t get to a remission stage or change, it’s mostly a matter of controlling the parts that make it unlivable, so strengthening the body, accommodating with mobility supports, KT tape, wheelchair, walker, elbow crutches, braces and more, making sure you get plenty of electrolytes and water to keep blood pressure high, and plenty of other daily maintenance and well being tasks that keep it from getting worse and progressing to greater disability).

I live with most of the same things and probably some other diseases/disorders Halsey has as a result of these, but my autoimmune issues thankfully don’t include Lupus, I just have an autoimmune condition called Behcet’s and a rare genetic condition that puts me at risk because I can drop potassium dangerously quickly (hypokalemic periodic paralysis). The other conditions I have that might be in their life as a result of this larger constellation of disability are mostly gastroparsis, possible (still investigating) cranio-cervical instability and Chiari, which cause me a migraine condition if that’s what’s actually present, congenital genetic heart defects whose correction/present murmur need ongoing monitoring and care, and interstitial cystitis, as well has Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

Day to day life IS hard and takes a lot of minimum self-care, accommodation, and support to get to other people’s starting point (think of it as Halsey being in the negative waking up and doing a lot to get to zero, so that they can start to be productive and function in day to day life).

Some periods are worse than others and when conditions like Lupus, Behcet’s, migraines, or a million other things are going downhill, the list of other conditions usually compound and worsen that downhill slope. It’s a big crash before the eventual pulling yourself together, and there’s more ground to cover every time you get up. It’s totally understandable why Halsey thought they would die, specifically because of the white blood cell disease. When your white blood cells don’t operate normally or your body attacks its own blood cells, the defense is working against itself and compromises your immunity and WBCs are very effective at attacking!

Everything that your body contains is vulnerable and the addition of every other illness compounds the issue into very much a matter of death.

For those of us with this kind of cluster of conditions, the brush with death is an eventuality, not a “what if?” We’re all vulnerable and able to lose this precious life, but chronic conditions and the genetic and epigenetics implied by these diagnoses are much higher risks for untimely death than the general risk of a healthy, similar aged person.

Producing and touring with a record with all that sounds… exhausting, but it’s also a dream come true and it must always be an exercise in trying to find balance and manage a very physically demanding schedule with accommodations. I don’t envy the pain it brings or the physical exhaustion but I honor their willingness to do it for the music as a singer and musician myself.
