Five years ago, the Head of the National Security Agency and the US Cyber Command warned that China and potentially other countries were able to launch a cyber attack that would shut down the entire US power grid, as well as other critical infrastructure. The national, regional, and state effects would be devastating since our economy is completely dependent on electricity. Every aspect of our daily lives would be affected – our financial systems (stock market, banks, ATMs); communication systems (the overload of cellular communications and more traditional methods); energy systems (heat, hot water); health care systems; and all the daily conveniences that depend on electricity. Are we prepared for such an event and what does that preparedness look like?
