This is meaningless to criminals. If you want to stop gun crime, keep gun criminals in jail.

If you want to be a legal firearms dealer in the US, you need an FFL. If you have an FFL, the federal government requires a background check on all weapons you sell / transfer. This means that legally there is no way to buy a gun from a dealer without a background check. Tell me again how there are not universal background checks?
Sure, can I buy a gun from this guy Joe down the street? Sure.
I could also go to Murry downtown and buy one from his van.
But I cannot go to a store and buy one without a background check.
There will always be shady ways of getting anything, please see the war on drugs.
In my state any firearms transfer, between non household relatives, requires a background check, even private party sales.
We have had multiple mass shootings. Mall, school, etc.
We have universal background checks here.
Yet another set of laws that do not stop the problem. But we need more laws that do the exact same nothing at the federal level.
