I cannot begin to count the number of times my late father, Billy W. Best, Sr., played this cut in our home! Maybe a MILLION!!! HE LOVED IT! Every time my brother and I hear it, WE GO STRAIGHT TO DAD!!! THANK YOU JOHN COLTRANE!!

McCoy Tyner has to be one of the most beautiful musical artists of all time

Coltrane nailed the blues with this one... if he hadn't reached spiritual enlightenment by this time it is just fine because he got me that much closer...

Since the first day, I heard this song. I have thought of it as one of the most badass and somewhat mellow jazz out there.

I listened to this album about twice every night before bed as a teenager for maybe 3 years. Exceptional.

I first heard this in about 1971 or 72. I had just started playing sax and listening to jazz when I bought an Atlantic compilation The Best of John Coltrane, which included cuts off Giant Steps and the later Coltrane Sound album. Coming from Beatles and Stones and Hendrix, I was stunned.

One of the greatest saxophonists of all time.

probably my favorite Coltrane tune. As a saxophonist myself and fan of anything from hip hop to metal to classical to progressive rock, I've never been able to figure out why this song strikes me so powerfully compared to Coltrane's other works. It just does.

I can’t hold my expression while this tune plays. It’s like he’s playing his horn right across my face.

A great example of sustained mood, a plaintive blues where Coltrane's solo gradually builds in lyrical intensity but always preserves the uniquely atmospheric, laid-back feel of the track. Tyner carries this forward in his piano solo, employing a series of resonant block chords with just a few well-chosen single note phrases and an effective use of space. Awesome stuff!

Coltrane leading the way with McCoy Tyner laying down that smooth side layer, very nice.

Still can't define this music, just progressively more and more in awe of it.

Don't we wish he was around to host a music master class. What an experience that would've been?

A brilliant masterpiece. Nothing more can be said. This and Mr. PC are my two favorites in the Trane catalog among many others.

Absolute masterpiece.
So brilliant and otherworldly.
I can't describe this accurately to give it justice. This is like knowing the harmony of the Gods

Listen to those hits 12 seconds in and have you ever heard anything more locked in and focused in your life?
