i’m only 17 but honestly don’t think I’ve ever heard any music as beautiful as this.

I spent a lifetime in serious depression. I can't tell you how many times Joni's music got me though. I played music of my own and learned so much from her on guitar and piano. Her voice was my range. She was the mentor for my soul. Amazing talent you don't see anymore. Completely all her own, unique, fun and intimate. Nothing contrived. Nothing uncomfortably forced. Just pure artistry.

The year was 1972 and I was deathly ill with a difficult pregnancy. I bought her “Blue” album, and it got me through the worst days I’ve ever had. I’ll always love Joni.

The lyrical poetry alone is astounding. Add musical instrumentation and it becomes phenomenal. Then add THE VOICE, and it becomes otherworldly. Forty years on and this album still takes me to emotional places that no other music has ever done.

As an instrumentalist, I will say this is her best actual melody. It's on my short list. If it works acapella + instrumental, that's the test of a melody.

to put it simply, this is about as good as it gets... poetry, beautiful piano... and a voice that will haunt listeners for centuries to come

Blue
Songs are like tattoos
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey, blue
There is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
Well, there's so many sinking now
You gotta keep thinking
You can make it through these waves
Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs
Lots of laughs
Everybody's saying that
Hell's the hippest way to go
Well, I don't think so
But I'm gonna take a look around it, though
Blue, I love you
Blue, there is a shell for you
Inside you'll hear a sigh
A foggy lullaby
Thеre is your song from me

Almost every song has me in tears. Probably the greatest musician of the past 50 years.

My older brother borrowed my "Blue" album and never gave it back. I repeatedly asked for it over and over; after a year, I finally gave up. I purchased a new one and allowed Mitchell's incredible vocals to wind throughout my head. An entire album would live inside of me like poetry from an open book - in the shower, in the supermarket, driving a car, walking through trees, early sunlight, rich sunsets, pools of water from rain-filled skies but always, circling around, keeping me inside a cocoon of complete and absolute happiness, and satisfaction that her endless loop of growing in my soul was never going to let me go, but live in my heart forever. Mitchell was more than an icon; she represented 'the other side'.

Joni's chord changes are like no other. Phenomenal.

I was heavily suicidal last autumn. Darkest time of my life, with not a single soul to go to, but this song gave me clarity

Her lyrics touch me now at 67 just as profoundly as they did when I was 17...

"Blue" is a true masterpiece, one of my favorite albums of all times. It still sounds fabulous after all these years. Joni Mitchell is second to none.
