I will say this. I've been in scanerios where having the a7sii is still beneficial even when using lighting. For instance, what if you only have a 650w light or a 1k light which isn't really a lot of output and you want to shoot at a higher f-stop or faster shutter speed etc then you may end up underexposed because you simply just don't have enough light output. Some lights like hmis, 6ks, 20ks are just way out of budget. So having a camera like a a7sii can help you get clean footage and use a wider variety of settings even when using light of you simply don't have access to enough power

Also A6300 can shoot in the dark, just not at 50K ISO... you should check out a video DSLRVideoShooter made how he essentially made his A6300 a BEAST with some mods.

I see what you mean, but it's also cause you want to film more studio related stuff. If you are filming outdoors and don't have access to lighting and also want something compact so you can get the shot then the a7s is great. But yeah I agree, lighting, stabilizers, and other equipment can make footage look loads better, but if you want to get a clean shot when filming out in the streets/nature during dusk/night you'll need a better sensor. I love trying to use natural light, adding lights onto a subject gives it another feel unless you take the hassle to bring crazy lighting rigs (but at that budget you can probs get a nice camera and lighting).

Dude! Dope vlog! I fully agree with you on all the cons of the A7sII outweighing the pros. I'm on a 5d mark3 still and the mark4 was a little dissapointing. Don't think I'm gonna upgrade for now.. but that Sony a6300 of yours looks pretty sweet! You use Sony or Canon lenses on it?

@2:33 the GH4 does have ISO 100. Go to Record settings and turn on Extended ISO. It's off by default and thus will start at 200

you need a low light camera if you can't have control of lights, like when you shoot ambient lit ceremonies or receptions in weddings.

The minimum aperture difference you were noticing could be caused by the speed booster since you are gaining a stop of light. That would also explain the difference in brightness.

I just switched over from a GH4 and DVX200 to Sony A7S ii's.. I couldn't be happier. To me, the GH4 footage looks better than the Canon, but will trust your judgement as you have them on your computer. The GH4 is an all-time beast still even in the discussion after all these years. Truly one of my all-time favorites.

in-body stabilization is a HUGE benefit of the A7sII. As a current a6300 owner, I can say it's sorely missed. Not having it really limits what lenses you can use (even on a gimbal). Rolling shutter is way worse over the A7sII. It's all but gone when you shoot in crop mode (on the A7sII).

two reasons I really really low the a7s. The 5 axis built in - in camera stabilisation. Love it. And of course the low light performance. And a few others: the non cropped 4k which is AMAZING and the 120fps 1080p although that's not much of a difference from the gh4's 96fps 1080p.

They both have the same crop factor, but the 5d is a full frame while the gh4 is only micro 4/3. You'll get more bokeh with a 5d any day unless you shoot with a small aperture.

Have you used the auto focus on the MKIV using it on the gimbal, if so what do you think about that?
