That was really fun to watch. I enjoyed the different techniques used and you could see a definite difference in the style of fighting compared to the more formal Kendo style used in some of the videos. Nice work as always!

You can see why a thrust is so important with a katana even though the weapon is designed more for cutting. I think half of the lethal blows came from a thrust at the right time.

I love the realism of these fights. It really shows just how fast a real sword fight would end back then.

It was great to see longer engagements and a definite fighting approach to kendo, as opposed to the formalized tournament sparring. I'm hoping these become more common as a separate league.

This has to be one of the best if not THE best sword-fighting videos ever made on this channel!

Fantastic job!
This is harder than it seems. There is a reason why oftentimes there was no winner in sword duels.
And I think it highlights the value of a jutsu to be combined with kendo.

Note that for safety reasons, these sparring weapons are a LOT more flexible than real swords. One of the ways this is relevant is that they will not transfer energy in the same way when the opponent's sword is beat down or to the side. With these flexible swords, the defender can regain composure and move the sword back to the center line very quickly. With a more rigid real sword, a strong beat against your blade is difficult to recover from, meaning the attacker has more time to strike before the defender is able to recover. Another detail is that with sharp blades, the two blades will actually stick together if the edges make contact, even at an angle. So it is possible to push against the other sword differerntly. When the blades are dull, the blades will easily slide against each other in parries. Dull blades have a feeling of slipperiness that is very different to sharp blades. It's worth (carefully, professionally) going through partner exercises with real swords just to get a feel for it. Real, sharp swords have a feeling of precision and control that's hard to imagine if you've only ever attempted techniques with metal/wood/polymer sparring swords. Obviously you wouldn't spar with them though, that'd be nuts 😂

Your sword fighting skills have improved a lot over the short time I have been watching your videos. Your hard work and practice are paying off. You should be proud.

Good stuff! I'm happy to see that you did not have to adapt much from bokuto sparring.

Hi guys. Kenjutsu guy here🙃 The HEMMA jacket is really uncompotable😢

I think I speak for most Kenjutsu practitioners here in that they would like to see more sparing in their clubs and learn from the HEMA folks in what they do. I shared this video with a friend of mine as well, awesome!!

This is actually pretty exciting that the sparring katana is a similar weight as a real katana. Is this possible? I just wish they could make the sparring katana look like a real katana. Either way this should help this under appreciated industry grow.

Not bad ! the metal katanas should be adopted into kendo tournaments.
