Are you tired of all the confusion in the Catholic Church? So was I! For this reason, I decided to intensely study the Catholic Magisterium in order to discern between what people say about the Catholic Church vs. what it actually says and teaches. If you are a confused Catholic, or are discerning becoming a Catholic, Reason & Theology offers you an in-depth examination of the situation in the Catholic Church that will help make sense of the confusion.

This is an answered prayer Michael. I was just wondering about this specific topic and 30 minutes later this video is posted. I’m currently in RCIA and amid confusion in the Church and within my confused Protestant family, your channel has been a great help in my conversion. Thank you for your hard work!

Part of the problem with Michael's argument is that the distinction between privately held beliefs versus official teaching authority is not a distinction that the council fathers themselves make. They condemned him as a heretic because of his correspondence with patriarch Sergious where he affirmsthe monothelite position. It did not matter to them whether his affirmation was in the form of a papal bull or not. It was just the fact that he has Pope endorsed the position. To read back into the history this arbitrary distinction between formal magisterial statements versus privately held views is anachronistic. Furthermore, when Pope Leo II stated in his own letter officially confirming the declarations of the council as correct, he also mentions that the anethemtization of Honorious and confirms that it was just. He states the following: "We anathematize the inventors of the new error, that is, Theodore, Bishop of Pharan, Sergius, Pyrrhus, Paul, and Peter, betrayers rather than leaders of the Church of Constantinople, and also Honorius, who did not attempt to sanctify this Apostolic Church with the teaching of apostolic tradition, but by profane treachery permitted its purity to be polluted." Is the letter from Leo Ii confirming the council a privately held view or official magisterial teaching? Seems pretty official to me seeing as Roman Catholic require papal ratification of councils to establish their validity. The fact of the matter is that these fathers did not make the distinction Michael makes. It was much more simple for them; if a Pope is making heretical statements that is enough to condemn as a heretic? After all, why wouldn't this be the case? If a Pope publicly states an eroneous "privately" held view it does the same injury to the faithful. The magisterial versus private distinction is arbitrary and subject to endless speculation and debate as to what statements actual counts are not.

The Pope approved the Council condemnation of Honorius, so how could the Council be wrong without the Pope of the day teaching error?

Cool video. Not entirely related, but when do you think the next ecumenical council will happen?

I must be missing something because, how can the Pope be mistaken in matters of fact? John 16:13 would be violated if this were true.

Thanks. Quick question. Is it possible that Rome loses the faith?
