Japanese Comfort Food Manila: Watami Grill and Sushi Bar Greenbelt Makati. Watami is a casual dining Japanese Restaurant chain founded in 1992 by Miki Watanabe in Tokyo and currently has more than 750 restaurants in Japan and across Asia Pacific. It was franchised to the Philippines on December 12, 2012 by the Bistro Group who also operate successful franchises of TGI Fridays, Italianni's, Red Lobster, Hard Rock Cafe, Buffalo Wild Wings and more.

At Watami you can expect an authentic Japanese meal with fresh quality ingredients, decent alcoholic beverage selection and fast service, but sometimes its too fast that they serve the hot entrees ahead of the sushi and sashimi so be sure to tell them your preference in timing your orders.

From their menu we would highly recommend the Clams in Stone Pot, French Fries, Deep Fried Tofu in Stone Pot, Watami Salad, 5 Kinds Sashimi, Salmon Sashimi, Uni Sashimi, Ebi Dynamite Roll, Salmom Taco Maki Aburi, Salmon Aburi, Ebi Tempura, Bacon Asparagus, Pork and Enoki Mushroom, Chicken Leek, Tonkatsu, Beef Sukiyaki Hot Pot, Grilled Mackerel, Cold Soba Set with Tempura, Beef Rice Spring Egg Tokyo Style, Salmon Stone Pot, Pepper Beef Rice Stone Pot, Matcha Ice Cream and for refreshments Plum Wine and Premium Sake and Fresh Fruit
Shakes.

A good sushi shouldn’t need a dipping of soy sauce, maybe a little wasabi at the most. It is also considered rude to dip it in soy sauce before tasting the sushi, a sign that the diner does not trust the sushi chef. This is one of my pet peeve when eating sushi and I see about 95% of diners do this, out with the soy sauce and wasabi mix right away, dips sushi in the sauce automatically. Worse is when westerners pour soy sauce in their rice. Cringe.
