003 FreeCAD wagon wheel

In this 3rd video in the FreeCAD series we make a simple wagon wheel model in order to demonstrate use of the Draft workbench polar array. We build on lessons learned in the first 2 videos, so be sure to watch them first.

Note: I didn't mention it at the time, but you might want to set the Array property "Fuse" to true when you have elements of the array that overlap, such as in this case where the spokes overlap in the hub. Setting the Fuse property to true can avoid some potential problems with Arrays.

When you changed it to 5 spokes I instantly thought of the Marble Machine "Because fife iss, nice" SuperVinlin
Definitely going to keep parametrics in mind and try to use them everywhere I can tho, modeling with members is just easier

I just downloaded and installed 0.19_pre and there have been major changes to the array interface and I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to apply your video to them.

edit, okay, I just figured it out. Have to select polar array from the the toolbar, select the spoke, then mouse over and hit "reset point" then okay.(spoke number is arbitrary since you can't set it equal to a parametric value in the gui) Then you can edit the properties like you did in the video and set it equal to the parametric spoke variable.

For anyone with v0.19 revision 22988 or similar, choose the array type you want. Then a GUI will show up. Make sure to press "Reset point", then " ok" at the top. After that you'll be able to follow along the tutorial.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, it might be Is a better idea to name the video after the lesson(s) in it, like this one could be "Intro to arrays and expanding on parametrics", it'd give a good idea what the video's about, and make it more likely to come up if someone is searching for the topics

16:45 I'm using latest version 0.21.1 - at this point when applying values to rim inner and outer radius the array height does not adjust. it looks like this did not fuse correctly. Select the array and ensure that Draft-AlwaysSyncPlacement is set to true

Having a lot of trouble with the Draft array. My .19 looks a lot different doesn't have a position. It has a center. The report view says..Array: this object is not editable

Hello Mark, If i have a scetch from one thooth of a gear, with the perfect angel, height and width property's, would it be possible to make a gear with this polar array from video 3?
