How Parrots Open Pin Feathers in the Wild? #shorts

Who opens parrot pin feathers on the head in the wild? This was one of the most common questions I received on my Pin Feathers video.

When we keep parrots as pets, they appreciate when we open pin feathers on their head as a surrogate for another parrot doing this in the wild. Usually a mate, parent, or friend from their flock will help preen their head and open their pin feathers.

Special thanks to Pauly and Patty for footage of paired Quaker Parrots preening each other on the head. Follow Pauly and Patty @paulyandpatty_thequakers to see more photos and videos of these beautiful Quaker parrots!

Thank you for your explanation!
You explain in a way we can understand! I really like your calm voice, and makes it easy for me to understand cause I'm Brazilian!

Pin feathers trigger my trypophobia. Once I saw a video of a bird that had MAD pin feathers on its head and I nearly vomited on my phone. 🤧

So that's why my baby girl, Mango loved to have her head rubbed. I didn't know that about her, I thought she just liked head rubs. She was also a blue and gold macaw.

Rachel is beautiful! I love your videos. I hope Santina is doing well in her home with the nice lady who adopted her. You and your dear family (birds, wife and baby) have a blessed Easter! 🙏❤️🐈

I always had the natural instinct to gently pet those myself as the birds love it anyways, it feels really good to them

Rachel is beautiful! They love if you gently remove them for them. I have an Amazon BlueFront who just turned 37 and when her feathers are coming in the second I put my hand towards her, she puts her head down so I will take them out! So funny! She grabs them with her claws too, just like Rachel! Awesome!

Question: What is the shell of the pin feathers made of? Is it just ceratine, a wax or something else entirely?
