great review, i have a few knives and this is my cheapest and my most used. I like kayaking and fishing so its nice to have a stainless blade that isnt going to get crazy rusty after cleaning some fish and can get washed up after in hot water and soap without worrying about wooden scales delaminating or warping.

The stainless version uses German steel, my guess it's the 4116 steel. Japanese's only the carbon steel version. Probably SK5.

Good video. They are indeed the underdog but not in Sweden itself. Visit a construction site there and I bet you see more workers with Hultafors than Mora. I think that is also bcs of the secondary bevel making the edge stronger. And all you have to do is strop every once in a while indeed, as you mentioned. I have been using my GK since 2011 and also had the students use it so it has seen some abuse and still use that first one and never had to re grind.

I don't know if they have just dropped in price since this video but here in the uk i got mine for £4.00 which is about 5 bucks i think. pretty decent value for money.

Axminster Tools has a good range of Hultafors knives and ship internationally within seven days,       And converting to US Dollars appears cheaper than Amazon,         The Japanese Stainless Steel is AUS8A with as you say a polypropylene handle,     As with the button thing,        I think that`s to do with easily hanging your knife sheath while wearing gloves in a cold climate

how good is the edge retention on the Japanese steal is there a secondary bevel or is it a true scandi ground to zero. brian

It is simply annoying if you are working and the knife is slipping all the time!!
