#HalalInvesting #IslamicFinance

In this video we compare 3 of the largest funds that cater to Muslim investors. These funds are:
-Amana Growth fund (AMAGX)
-Sharia Portfolio ETF (SPUS)
-Wahed Invest ETF (HLAL)

We compare these three funds from the standpoints of:
-How each funds screens for halal stocks.
-How much Practical Islamic Finance agrees with the halal ratings of the top 10 holdings in each fund.
-The historical performances of these funds.

I end the video with my ranking for which fund is best after giving my reasons.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Very useful sharing. I find that ESG concept and Sharia concept blend very well together.

Jazak allah khairan brother for this great coverage. With this high ratio of uncomfortable investments in each of the three etfs, does that mean you don't recommend investing in any of them?

Interesting analysis. What about the new SPRE REIT from Shariah Portfolio? I haven't seen many comparisons of REITs for Muslim investors.

You covered very important topics, that is, are the companies in which these "halal" portfolios are something a regular muslim would also perceive as halal. As far as I am concerned, I do not consider it to be a proper decision to invest my money in companies like Apple, Tesla, Meta and Microsoft. What are these companies doing in Israel (Appartheid), movies, music, blocking some profiles, if things are said they do not like, while allowing half naked people to be shown, working with other companies that support all kind of things and so on. You might get an idea, why you might not want to trust these portfolios.

I enjoyed the side by side returns comparison. Could you subtract the advisory/management fee to show final returns to see which really comes out on top. Also when looking into the performance difference, was it due to a single stock or another going disproportionatly going up vs others?

Just a valid comment: I don't know why he is commenting on Islamic-finance products. In other words, I would like to ask if he has any degree, experience, or anything related to Islamic finance industry. Reading an article or two doesn't make one expert on the subject.

When I checked his LinkedIn, I didn't see anything related to Islamic finance. Scholars spend years and years before they say whether a thing is halal or not.

Anyone can start a youtube channel and speak about Islamic finance or any other topics. Therfore, we need credibility and authenticity in this regard and I hope my question gets answered.

Note: I meant no offense or disrespect. Just a valid question I wanted to ask.

May Allah bless you.

Appreciate if you can add similar type of analysis for SPRE and SPSK both halal

HLAL seems to be more diversified than the other two. I think because it tracks FTSE 600 rather than SP 500. Which might be better for someone who wants to focus on diversification

Pls. Advise regarding following:
1) if I bought AMGX via broker, how/when fund expenses are deducted i?
2) on which US market I can buy AMGX fund?

Expense ratio is such a huge component when it comes to picking an etf. It should have been part of your analysis. But great video overall

Assalamou Alaykoum, Can u help me please. I have a question. I live in Belgium and I want to start investing in spus or hlal but I can't seem to find a broker that has these available. Is this because europeans can not but stocks or etf from outside of europe ?

Salam Brother
I really appreciate your work and may Allah gratify you for your efforts. However, as a brother who cares I would suggest:
1- Pls abstain from declaring that supporting u financially is a Sadaka, unless you see yourself among the 8 categories mentioned in the holy Quran.

2- pls make sure your works won't fall under conflict of interest if u r planning to launch ur own Halal fund or similar. In witch case you might be inclined to attack ur competition.

Other than that, I will continue to thumb up for all your videos.

Jazakallah Khair

Is there any benefit of investing through Amana or Sharia Portfolio etc managed investment accounts vs ... managing yourself and investing in AMANA, SP, and Wahed Mutual Funds?

Can we please redo the comparison as with the data of this bear market?

I personally prefer SPUS because they include entertainment and music (not just "adult entertainment"). Neither HLAL or AMAGX take that into consideration. Plus the 1.06% mgmt fee for AMAGX is NOT trivial, it's really significant and adds up due yo compounding. Sure SPUS isn't cheap either but neither is HLAL. I'd personally pick SPUS if I was to choose between the 3

hlal does actually have an ESG screener
