Today we're starting to see reports come out from the Annual Shareholder meeting at Nintendo with one report in particular showing some very high spending happening on something.

I work for Toyota and our raw material cost have increased so much due to the global issues going on that we have supply issues and cannot hit production numbers anymore, I wouldn't read to much into this other than a response to the global issues.

I swear if this video mentions a switch pro.

Remember guys, if every year they report that Nintendo is going to release new hardware, they will eventually be right.

But, for real, these reports should calm down. It feels like there's been a rumour about new hardware since the Switch's release 5 years ago.

There's no doubt they're working on the Switch's successor right now. This is how it's always worked.

Cost increases are not uniform. You can expect to pay more across the board when, e.g., transportation costs rise. But when we're talking about parts that take months to create and there is a major backlog, compounded by the fact that companies like Microsoft are willing to pay more to jump ahead in the queue, it makes sense that Nintendo's production costs would rise that much. HOWEVER, if it actually is new hardware, I doubt it's a refresh. I think given the apparent "across the board" delays that seem to be hitting their 1st party release schedule, it seems as if new titles are being developed "cross gen" (that is, in equivalent terms to Nintendo generations). Perhaps games that would be announced or even available now are being optimized for a new console, hence the trickle of 1st party info in recent days.

Isn't there often something strange going on with Nintendo?

Not even Nintendo's biggest fans can make sense of them...I don't know if even Nintendo themselves know what's going on with Nintendo.

If I compare to my company I'd guess it has to be secure materials for current gen due to doubling of supply lead times

It’s painfully obvious to me that Nintendo is holding back games like BOTW 2 and Prime 4 until they are ready to announce a new switch.

They did the same thing with BOTW 1 and Twilight Princess - multiple delays followed by becoming launch titles for a new console.

The difficult thing will be making a “switch 2” different enough to incentivize the casual gamers to eventually upgrade

If you don't have audio, it's because the video hasn't finished rendering yet.

We gotta remember. New consoles are not a 6 months to 1 year process. These companies start RnD years out so this isn't surprising.

Let's be honest....a multi-billion dollar company, spending money for R&D for future products. Hmmmm....not sure this is all that strange, in fact, I'd say this is rather the norm. I get it, most gamers today go way overboard in how OCD they get for the most mundane information, but ask yourself...does anyone truly think that ANY of the 3 big console companies aren't currently(and constantly) working on R&D for future products?

Everyone relax, Nintendo is just making the (NEW) Switch XL.

* 1440p dock mode resolution
* 40 FPS
* 30 minutes of extra battery life upgrade
* in gross Pantone 448 C color design
* using same driftable joysticks
* Tik Tok app added
* 2 Megabyte camera for AR cards

The material cost "doubled" AND yet we still have joycon drift!?

To the idea of Nintendo doing a phone refresh pace sounds like a terrible idea. The moment you introduce a process of several different Nintendo platforms simultaneously on store shelves that all play the latest games and when a new one is introduced the old one is officially retired and no longer supported, you have doomed the average consumer. This would be easy for your average gamer to keep track of, but we aren't the only market and the more casual crowd would get frustrated trying to understand which games work on the Nintendo platform they currently have.

Considering how the Switch is roughly as powerful as the Wii U, it’s been almost 10 years since Nintendo released a console with significantly better performance.
