Rather was a sad replacement for the man who had so much journalistic integrity that no one knew what his personal political views were. A man who took CBS NIGHTLY NEWS to Vietnam to find out the truth; and for the most part, he did ... and America believed him. Cronkite was the last news anchor that deserved to be believed just on his own recognizance: That's Walter on tv; I trust him. One would be crazy to say that about ANYONE today.
