2 -16d nails has worked for me for 40 years, also put your wall OSB/Plywood on horizontal

I have a couple of comments about the Dodge Hanger Bottom, DHB2512.

First - I had to sheath a lean-to roof 30 feet by 14 feet by myself with 1/2" OSB. I could not have done it without this hangar. I was successful completing that job.

Second - This concept needs work. First, the screws they provide have heads that protrude into the hangar 1/8", allowing only a 3/8" thick sheet to slide into the hangar. I knew immediately that these screws would never work. I tried a galvanized nail with a head of about 3/32". The sheet would not slide in. I then tried a roofing nail, that had the lowest profile head of any fastener. The sheet would still not slide in. I was working on scaffolding with an eave height of 8 feet.

I had to make a tool that would lift the high side of the sheet so that the low side of the sheet would go into the bracket at an angle. This tool was an 8 foot 2x4 with a 3/8" lag screw on the end. The lag was at the end of the 2x and screwed into the narrow side of 2x4 at a 45 degree angle. I also fastened a short 2x4 block on the wide side, also at the end of the 2x. The sheathing was placed onto the roof and was slid down to the Dodge Hangar. Using my tool, I put the lag under the high side of the sheet, and pushed down on the 2x4. This lifted the high side of the sheet, angling the sheet into the hangar. I then rotated the 2x4 and used the 2x4 block to tamp the sheet fully into the bracket.

It’s my understanding that the sheets are constructed similar to plywood with thin layers of chips ORIENTED the same direction (like the grain in plywood. Then the each thin sheet is turned 90degrees. The sheets are then pressed together under heat and pressure to form the correct thickness.

you can put a 16 penny nail in the same location and they are already on the job-site!

I am surprised by the negative comments. a) the gap made by these hangers is small. There will more air leakage caused by the mandatory spacing between OSB panels and other connection places. OSB is not the air barrier or critter barrier. b) cost. Time/labor is expensive today. At today's price of $1.49 each, sheathing can be hung by a single person. How much will that save in a framer's time or make certain tasks easier/possible. c) comments regarding that nails are betters. Sometimes nails are better, but often they cannot be used. These hangers work on the roof, at the concrete boundary, etc. d) comments about horizontal versus vertical OSB installation. This video is about how to use the hanger, not building science.

There must be enough contractors that like them. Eight years later they are still available for purchase.

Great idea. But, I have to install a starter rail and those hangers would be in the way.

Hangers leave an unsealed gap between the sheet and the sill where bugs and water can get in.

Stud layout should have taken plywood thickness into account so second piece layed at corner would overlap edge of first piece.

Use the door shims and pull them out is a lot cheaper, the nails will hold OSB sheathing in place.

Is it ok to use cdx sheathing as siding if it's caulked, primed and painted or stained?

this sheathing is called OSB (oriented strand board ), for a reason. The longest fibers are oriented the long way on the sheet. The direction of the sheet should go across the framing members (horizontal).

Why is the osb being installed vertically?

depends on the price i would pay 5 bucks for 50 of them

I would have the bottom row of sheathing on my side before my laborer had his tabs nailed on his side by time he measured an hade them makes out then nailed sheathing on lol

Great concept for hanging sheathing but over priced.

A new build should be sheeted on the floor before raising. Who would want to go back and lift and ladder all that!?
