When I was serving our SGT would tell us to ignore what our commanding officers said. He said if someone points a gun at you, shoot. If you don’t, you will wind up dead.

Politicians should never be in charge of a war

Our warriors are held to a ridiculous standard, but our law enforcement has qualified immunity from the law itself.

During the invasion of Iraq (2003) our Battalion Commander gave us a GREAT ROE. "For every round fired at us we will return a thousand."

When our unit faced "accusations" he took full responsibility and it was all dropped. I have no doubt that if he were a coward (like most officers today) our unit would have had a few lower enlisted folks and a couple sergeants court martialed. The accusations stemmed from an ambush that occurred on an over pass where one company literally did return 1000x and a few civilians did get hurt. That harm wasn't intentional.

Our ROE mid tour switched to "only fire if you are being fired at" . . which DID result in casualties. Soldiers had to choose to violate ROE and fire at folks they thought (correctly) were about to fire OR wait to be fired at.

In a fist fight it's dumb to let the other guy hit you first, in an ambush it's INSANE.

Important thing to note here, he said "the rules of war" by accident, some people think he is referring to war crimes or things like the geneva convention, but he isn't. The rules of engagement are separate, that was a correction, not an addendum. He doesn't want to break the geneva convention, he wants to be able to shoot his gun at somebody actively trying to kill him without waiting 3 hours for clearance.

“If you are going to use military force, then you ought to use overwhelming military force. Use too much and deliberately use too much; you'll save lives, not only your own, but the enemy's too.”

- Gen. Curtis Lemay

These guys did their duty, then were chided for it . They were sent to fight a war and not allowed to fight . God love you Nam Vets 🇬🇧❤🇺🇲

The calmness in his voice is scarier than any aggression

Foreal. Can’t even imagine how many of our soldiers in the Middle East died when they changed the ROE from shoot on sight to only shoot when shot at.

ROE are a way for senior officers to avoid investigations and bad press at the expense of grunts on the ground. Many people have serious criticisms of GEN MacAthur but he was absolutely correct when he said “there is no substitute for victory.” You can not have absolute victory with ROE that limit the Troops’ ability to kill the enemy.

I was just at the Wall this past week, this tour of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall never gets old.
This marked the 34th year of the Wall, May 25, 2024, Mission Accepted and Accomplished-Run For The Wall.
There was many Motorcycle club colors left at the Wall this year and I have pics of all of them.
On Thursday, I was at Arlington National Cemetery to visit my dad and some of my US Marine Corps buddies. Unfortunately, one of the trams that takes you around the cemetery for tours lose it’s air brakes but the driver did one hell of a job avoiding people walking on both sides of Weeks Road.
I hit my knee on the back of the seat in front of me and another guy fell out of his seat and onto the road. He didn’t appear to be injured but I think the Arlington Fire and Rescue took him to get checked out just to be safe, he was listed as being 77 years old from what I was told.
My knee hurt for two days but I’m doing ok. I knew the best thing for me to do was walk it off and keep the swelling down. It doesn’t work 100% of the time but it works most of the time.
I was still able to visit Section 28 Marker 668 of Dean F. Keeley, a US Marine Corporal who served in WWII thru Vietnam, who passed on February 11, 2010. Purple Heart.
His marker sits next to two big Christmas trees and it’s a very quiet location of the cemetery but yet, very easy to get too.
I’ll tell you something that’s very important. There is thousands of high schools that visit Arlington National Cemetery every month of every year, whose support for our veterans is unmatched by the number of veterans who visit their family members and friends like I did.
If there was just one message and one piece of advice that I could offer to each kid that visits Arlington National Cemetery with their high school, it would be this:
“For the individual soldier, there is no winners in wars. That serving your country in a war is suppose to prevent these young high school aged kids from ever having to go into a war and seeing what we’ve seen.”

I found that the Rules of Engagement the written by a guy who safely sits in a guarded room in the Pentagon not by anyone who's ever been shot at

You Sir, are correct.
As a Canadian Peacekeeper in Cyprus ... 1988-89 we had to do patrols with only 10 rounds of ammo in a magazine (30 round) and NOT loaded in our rifles.
Rules made by people never going outside the base.
Ridiculous.😳😲🤯☹️🧐
P.s. ROE was: if shot at, we had to fire 2 warning shots in the air, AFTER saying "Stop" in either Turkish or Greek before returning fire.
Our modified version, was shoot to kill, followed by 2 shots in the air. Still how fucked up was that.

My dad said that he thought it was ridiculous they could go by some place and being shot at, but they couldn't fire back because of the ridiculous no fire zones. Pour it on.

The rules of war is there are no rules. Make war so terrible that the other side cannot continue. God bless our troops!
