The Role of Artificial Intelligence in our Future.
Dr. Judy Goldsmith, HS '78/'79, is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Kentucky, and future head of the
Comparative Decision Making Studies Program. Her research spans many areas of computational decision making,
including computational social choice, planning under uncertainty, and medical decision aids. She is the author of over
80 technical papers, as well as occasional fiction and columns in local newsletters. She has her MS and PhD from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison and her AB from Princeton, all in Mathematics. She did postdocs at Dartmouth College
and Boston University and served as an assistant professor of Computer Science at the University of Manitoba before
settling in Kentucky, because no one told her when she moved there that it was in the South.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together
to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion
and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently
organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx
events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
