Smart vs Roberts: The Revisiting

Here I discuss more of the recent drama surrounding Star Citizen, Derek Smart, FuzzyModem, and my own meandering thoughts on continued coverage of the game.

I may not agree with some of your opinions, but hey, they'er tough, but fair, and raise awareness/concern or make me question my original stance/s. You and people like you are good for the discourse. i wonder if part of the reason parts of the SC community is so quick to "defend" this guy (i forget his name) is due to it being a knee jerk reaction due to DS (and others) spray painting the whole community/company (CIG) with the same paint. i tend to try to stay as neutral as i can in all conversations regarding SC and its development, but with DS behaviour over the last year has made it hard for me to take anything that he says seriously.


now do i think that CIG has been 100% perfect in all of its communication and what not? no, they have dropped the ball pretty heavily on numerous occasions with numerous things. now does this mean that the project is mismanaged and doomed to fail because of this? no. many companies have similar problems.


one thing that i have said quite a few times on youtube, reddit and on the SC forums is that it is not necessarily what is said but how you say it, and that is where alot of these fandoms fall into trouble. both sides have had good points, but in most cases it is written pretty poorly, or even comes across slightly "trolly" even if the intend to troll wasnt there.

The fact that Derek Smart puts out 20 twitter messages about star citizen every day tells me a couple of things.

This must be a pretty big personal issue Derek is dealing with. No matter if his claims is right or wrong. Cause you can clearly see that his aggression towards the whole project goes 100 feet deeper than most other critics. There is nothing that points towards a third party man trying to raise constructive awareness about what ever problems CIG are having.

He is paying so close attention to the project. Writing what i would call small novels of hate on his forums, using memes and what ever little information he can find through his contacts in the game industry, reddit, youtube etc etc to front his campaign. not especially professional of him.

If this was not personal, then his posts would not sound the way they do. If he could just show a tiny spec of respect towards people i would actually, just maybe heed his warnings and listen to what he has to say, but time after time again he posts something that is nothing more than bullying.

I actually sent Derek Smart a private message. Asking him about some pretty fair questions. A message i formulated to not sound like a total douche. Just trying to have a friendly chat about it. He have yet to respond to this. EVEN THO he spends his whole day on twitter. Until he starts acting like an adult, and not bring up a bunch of Alex Jones conspiracy shit, then screw him.

Even if some backers throw hate against you, doesn't mean you have to act the same way. Man the fuck up Smart.

Hmm kind of too generalized a term honestly. Just because people have like opinions doesnt mean they are a tribe. In the case of DS I think you are right that it is more about him himself and how much people dislike his games and his attitude than it is about defending anything, even SC.

I have silly pixel games in my steam library that have been in EA longer than SC has been in dev. I am not a 10yo child waiting for Xmas, if it takes 5 years 6 years 7 years, idc. What is important is if it is a good game. Is it fun, engaging and stable. I dont even care if it has everything it promised, I care if the game is fun and stable.

Best to sit it out until release. Early access is not something that everyone has the emotional stability and mental fortitude to withstand. The white knights and haters are both prime examples. I'm a backer since 2013, and I never expected to see a released product until 2018, or later. But I have worked for the government and seen what happens to the best laid plans, especially, when people devote their lives to opposing progress and heckling every move.

I mean you put yourself in the middle, no one to blame that but you, as for fuzzy modem I can understand when the only shred of evidence you show is a half arsed article from a tiny newsletter but the court case is still on going so I'll await for the result. But blaming CIG for something he done is ridiculous.

Aaaaand this is why I don't bother with fandoms. There are good parts, I recognize that, but the risk of getting drawn into this kind of ridiculous bullshit just isn't worth it imo.

Derek is still butthurt that Robert's Wing Commander series was a success, while BC3K was a total train wreck, after over 20 years it's getting pretty pathetic.

There is no need for subjectivity when it come to star citizen ... you just have to examin facts and reality ... things such as when studios and production as truely began and not base on beliefs or peoples asumption SC developpement as not started for real in 2013 there was no production in itself beside hangard module and very limited ship who had to be redone due to their " rushed nature " to satisfied the crying kids who wanted to fly now ... thats said F42 as been up and running with 1/3 of the production team in early 2014 ... and foundry42 germany only around june 2015 with also 1/3 of what they have right now .... If anyones as realistiic expectation and realistic aproach they would know that SC with the level of quality and request from a large amount of backers couldnt be done in the date previously toughts in the Kick starter campaign and if the game would have been produce as pitch ... only SQ42 would have been produce and rush out and SC would have been slowly build for up to 5 years to furfill some basic features ... this was the original plan with no landing on planets with no procedural tech with no deep features for non combat roles etc..etc... thats the reality .. as is ... and sadly if you speek the truth and show fact as they are calmly you get atack by bias retarded peoples who claim your a fanboy because you claim things as they are ... and they stick on words of " delivery " wich they consider " promise " while they were estimated base on CR hopes and not base on what truely happen ... thats said when you look at SC versus others games who are far less complex but who took over 8 to 10 years to developpe ... i can say that the progress they made from early 2014 to now is actually pretty insanely efficient ... thats the reality ... We dont need to so call " be in the middle of both side of the fanatism " to be right .... you just need to look at the fact to look at what they have done so far and let go the insanity base on " false entittlement of promise " delivery wich arent promise they were and always have been estimate or wishfull thinking ...
