sometimes i’m convinced that people didn’t learn that translucent is not the same as transparent. when you call something translucent, you are acknowledging that there is some level of opacity left in the product which could distort what is underneath (for example: a nail polish top coat is transparent, while a jelly polish (a see through color) is translucent. you can still see a bit of what is underneath the jelly polish, but not the same way you can see what is underneath the top coat.

I can tell that whoever said that is someone who has the skin tone that majority of makeup companies cater to. If they were darker skin, they would have already understood why there needs to be a range of setting powders

THIS. It really can seem useless if you’re not familiar with using these products. But when it comes down to actual application it can make a HUGE difference depending on the look you’re going for.
