DRIVING THE WAYAH ROAD IN 🌄 THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS - POV route

Set in the heart of the smoky mountains Wayah Road is known as Thunder Road by the locals. Not so well known, but a rare gem to be experienced.

A fabulous route full of twists and turns with scenery that runs through the beautiful Nantahala Gorge in Nanatahala National Forest. Nantahala is
Cherokee for “Land of the NoonDay Sun".

This drive might not have the panoramic mountain views of some of the other routes in the smokies but there is plenty of scenery along the Nantahala River, and the clear sparkling alpine Nantahala Lake is a great place to stop and stretch your legs.

The Wayah Road runs for 28 miles connecting US64 to US 74 in the heart of the Nantahala Gorge near Topton North Carolina. The entire road is fun; however, the special segment runs for about 7.5 miles with little to no homes along the route.

It’s a useful stretch of road as it’s the only road that cuts through this
rugged section of high mountains and national forest taking you from Robbinsville, NC to Franklin, NC.

Anyway, enough about that, come and join me for this POV drive and share the road with with.

Glad you stopped by! You’re here because you too have a passion for car driving! So welcome to the ultimate sports car rally for adventurers who live to DRIVE!

My interest in Porsche began as a teen when he hung a picture of the iconic 930 Turbo on his bedroom wall. My dream of owning a Porsche came true and soon afterward quickly discovered GT cars, but I have a love for the engineering of super cars.

After many years as an enthusiast of high-performance driving, I became an instructor and today I share my passion by teaching driving enthusiasts car control on the track and on the road. I currently own a 991.2 Porsche GT3 RS.

Nice ride! In less then a week I am staying less then 2 miles from where Wayah Rd starts off rt 74. Your video makes it look as though Wayah road isn't to difficult at all. What is your opinion of the roads difficulty going slow on a cruiser motorcycle? It looks slightly more difficult then the Cherohala Skyway which while has a lot of elevation is what I would consider a tame road. I didn't see any 180 degree brake neck switchbacks or anything like that. It looks well paved and level road. Thank you!

Thank you for this, I stumbled across your video after exploring Google Maps looking for fun roads to drive on two wheels or four near my family's farm - Wayah Road starts just a few miles away as the crow flies (closer to a dozen by road).
I'm a slow car/bike fast person - Do you allow slower antique and classic roadsters - like first gen miatas, Triumphs and MGs - on your organized rides?
