New Super Mario bros 5 should be a modern version of Super Mario bros 2 but with a few twists:
1 - it really happens and isn't a dream.
2 - Wart invades the Koopa Kingdom first, incapacitates Bowser and Kamek, and then conquers the mushroom kingdom too.
3 - Mario, Luigi, Peach, and BOWSER JR have to team up to save the world from Wart and his army.
4 - Bosses should of course be the same as they were in the original. With similar, but more modern fights.
5 - Towards the end, Mouser should be an especially prominent and ambitious villain and at the very end he should break off from Wart to do his own thing.
6 - We need dialogue, just like in the GBA version.

From my understanding this is what they originally intended. Mario 2 theme, they even had a slot next to 3D world for it in the menu. Then covid tanked the plans and they had to go with the smb2 mushroom instead. Just another cool thing tanked by covid.

Holy shit this looks amazing. I've always thought that an SMB2 theme would be cool, but now I think needs to happen... It sucks that we're most likely not getting another game style since we're past the "last major update".
