This is so refreshing to see. Every fucking dude on the internet with a grill goes full goby for A5 wagyu. Someone already said it, but it is the rapper's Rolex of meat. Everyone knows it's expensive, but it's a bit too much and you can get something way more versatile and in the end delicious at a fraction of the cost

Pretty much no one in Japan consumes wagyu as a big steak because it’s too rich. It’s small slices. In fact in Japan to eat steak they use angus

The full vid this is cut from is way worth the watch. They go through so many cuts for comparison. Its really fascinating. Personally I find the Japanese approach, not surprisingly, to be the best towards waygu. Small portions, properly rendered (or raw) and usually cut with an acidic / bright side. Its one type of special steak experience but far from my personal favorite steak type to enjoy

💯 finally people giving reviews based on taste not exclusivity

I’m seeing a lot of comments here not against A5 - but people happy to see a review where yes it’s really good - but not worth the money I guess. I’ve been lucky enough now to try a few things Angus Aussie Wagyu (I’m Aussie) dry aged - and now A5. Is it worth the money? Eh 🤷‍♂️ depends how much money you have and how often you wanna have it. Was it the best steak I’ve ever had? Yes. Fuck yes easily. There’s a big jump from Aussie Wagyu to Japanese A5. I will admit - while the flavour is amazing - that’s not really where the jump in quality I guess is - it’s the fat and what it does to the eating experience. It’s so freaking juicy in a good way. It’s not like a really good steak with too much butter or something - it’s the best part of a nice steak - amped up like crazy. So I guess - is it worth it? For me - I’ll probably have it on my birthday and Father’s Day - twice a year - it’s worth it. People on here “it’s not the best steak you’ll have there’s others” blah blah - either haven’t tried it - or think it just isn’t worth the price (the price is mental obviously) but I mean - ribeye vs ribeye - is the A5 the best ribeye I’ve had? Fuck man yes it’s not close. I cooked an w tire steak ate about half - put the other half in my fridge - I cut a slice off the next day and ate it cold - and it was juicy as fuck. A5 is amazing man.

£350 can buy you a whole cow with change here in South Africa

Very noble to have such a take on high fat content cuts of beef. I agree, and would greatly prefer the flavor profile of a dry aged, prime cut steak over A5 any day.

I know fat is flavor but there truly is such thing as too much fat. Give me that retired dairy Friesian in the full video any day.

Nice quick review, I've alway been curious about Wagyu! We have some good quality meat in Alberta, so I've often wondered how it compares. Love a good, properly cooked steak. Just needs a bit of salt and pepper. <3

A few little bites is wonderful but a whole steak full is too much.

I 100% agree! To me the best steak flavour is from grass fed older cows like Chianina or txogitxu. It’s also expensive but compared to A5 wagyu type beef it’s pretty sensibly priced.

I've never tried A5 or even Wagyu as far as I know, but would like to try it one day if I can, but only in the Japanese way which is a small serving and having things on the side that compliments the A5 and helps handling the richness of it. If I travel to Japan one day, I'd definitely try it.

But for a steak dinner, then no, I'd pick a more common, less expensive cut and breed.

A-C is the yield. 1-5 is based on a range of different metrics.

Wow thanks for explaining. So A5 means A yield and 5 metrics that's so cool

Love the review of the meat ad the channel in general. Not convinced i learned what A5 really means in this one though 😅

The best value steak imo is rump.
Cooked right (medium rare for me)
With butter and garlic, its as good as any.

A-C, got it. Informative. Thank you.
1-5, “a range of metrics”, so.. I still don’t know unless I had prior experience with the topic…

As some have already pointed out, in Japan they don't really eat Wagyu as a steak. The most common way is Japanese barbecue, which is not like western barbecue. Also see Korean barbecue. Small, thin slices of beef. Cooked on smokeless charcoal. The fat melts off the beef and drops onto the coals and burns. The beef then crisps up and you dip it in some great sauces, or just salt. Best way to eat that kind of marbled meat.
So yes, the guy is right. It isn't meat for steak. He got it right off the bat. Well done that chef!

To be fair Wagyu are supposed to be consumed in small portion, not a whole steak…
