Corvette Unveils First Gas-Electric Hybrid

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray has all the styling of the classic American sports car, but with some unexpected elements under the hood. E-Ray is Corvette’s first hybrid. The new model will come with a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, combined with an electric motor that you don’t have to plug in. Another Corvette first? All-wheel drive. You could be behind the wheel of this Corvette starting around $104,000.

It would be cool if future cars could run on solar power, and only needed to be plugged in when driving at night, or when it's cloudy/rainy. And even be cool if instead of having to plug in, just park on top of the charger, and drop down a charging plate . . . such as setting cell phones on chargers.

It would also be cool if cars had two separate energy storage systems. Then when one storage was depleted, the second one could come into play. Fewer stops between charging, and can then charge both back up once home or at the hotel/motel. Can have two recharging plates that drop down when charging on the road, and two outlets for plugging in at home.

I'm not understanding how this thing works (they did not explain all too well), does it NEED both gas AND electricity to operate? Why not just go for a gas vehicle or an electric vehicle? I'm not really a car guy, so maybe I'm just stupid.
