Thanks man! I just had to do this for both the toilets in my house! Sometimes it’s as easy as lifting up the piece with the o-ring or washer and just clearing out some debris or crap that’s stuck there not letting it seat flush around the hole!

As an addition to that, IF you ever have to remove the tank from the bowl, ACE hardware sells a product you can put into the remaining water in the bowl and it turn it into a gel. Keeps you from making a mess if you have to replace the gasket between bowl and tank, ie if you change the overflow tube. Then when done and you turn the water back on it dissolves. Very cheap packet of stuff and works great.

I’m having that exact problem with two toilets. I fixed the toilet so the water would come in and flush Great, but then it kept running off and on, but now I know how to fix that too. Thanks! 👍🏼

Wish I’d seen this 4 weeks earlier, would’ve saved me from replacing three flush valves! This is so much simpler than having to re-seat the tank onto the toilet bowl after replacing the flush valve

If you get the "toilet miser", it will save on the amount of water used per flush, because it has a float that follows the water's surface, and you adjust it for the maximum flush with maximum water saving

I've repaired & replaced several, and never have seen a replacement trim ring, they must hide them at the hardware store, so you have to buy the whole enchilada*... 😅

*flush valve kit $20-30.
Repair kit $15... fixing a John used to be cheap and easy.
